Sounds like you found a great dealer to work with, Persistent. I would jump on that deal. And try not to get stressed by the dent in the hood--it's a tractor!

ok guys..quick question.
how much play can there be in the mid pto?
if i grab the splined pto, i can get a very tiny amount of side play.
just a wee bit. would that be normal for a used machine.
i turns smooth and isnt leaking at all. the rear pto has no side to side movement.
thats the only thing i can find that might be a problem.
im thinking it may be normal if this was mostly used to mow.
any help?

all right..one more.
i just got around to checking the engine oil...its very dark..actually black.
i didnt check it till now because it has a new filter on it....so i figured i wouldnt be able to tell anything.
how can it be black if it was just changed?

I have had my BX1500 for 3+ years, price sounds too good to be true for my area.

I like my tractor except that I have had to rebuild the 48" mower because previous owner did not maintain it. I remove the FEL for mowing because of fences, and in the winter to attach a 50" snow thrower. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes of practice to get it right but after that, taking it off is easier then putting it back on, and the only problem I have with putting it on is aligning the tractor with the arms.

The idle shaking is because this tractor is a 2 cylinder, and I also run it about 25% throttle to stop the rattle.

I did find 1 quirk last year, the engine is mounted backwards. The radiator is close to the driver instead of out front. Consequently whe i started to experience overheating problems, i sprayed water in the grille to clean the radiator and it did not help. I finally remembered where the radiator was and cleaned it OK. Not a wrong design, just a quirky one.

I snow blow and grade a 900' driveway (gravel) and I mow about 2-1/2 or 3 acres of weedy grass. Tractor is great.

When you are using the loader, make sure you either use counter weight in the back or loaded tires as this is a light tractor and if you load max capacity in the bucket without counterweight, the back wheels WILL leave the ground.

Mine has 665 hrs on it and no play in either PTO shaft. Not sure what might be going on there. I use both PTO's for weekly mowing from April thru October, rototilling in the spring and fall, and planting trees with a post hole digger (hobby tree farm). Black oil is normal for a diesel. Soot builds up fairly quickly after each oil change. My truck has a Cummins and the oil is very black every time.

Had some issues with our 3930 this past snow storm. Did the 10" + snowfall with the BX, while it's a lot slower than Ford, its definitely more fun!

BTW Persistent, we're still waiting for those pics.

Did you end up buying the BX?

I agree with AceDeuce about black oil. Diesels will take no time at all to darken fresh oil.

hey guys thanks for the replies.
im going to buy the bx1500. the dealer picked it up and is fixing a couple small things that i noticed. they are also going to load the rears with rimgaurd. I should get it back wed or thurs. once i get it back ill snap some photos and get them posted.

btw what do you guys feel is the most used 3 point attachment?

   / BX1500 questions #32
Congratulations. I have an Omni 3pt receiver hitch I leave on most of the time. The only other attachment I have for the BX is a Land Pride 42" rough cut mower for the 3pt hitch which is used on occasion. I have a 12v 26 gallon sprayer I'm going to make a carryall type mount for the 3pt. Most of our 3pt implements are category 2 for the bigger tractors we have on the farm. Enjoy the 1500, you'll love it!

I've used mine to pull a landscaping rake, the tractor has plenty of power but will sometimes spin the tires, (turfs not loaded)

Did it get delivered? Pics yet?
