John,

It cost me about $100.00 for filters and oil and most of it, $60 was for the transmission oil. Took me about 2 hours, and I had never did this before so I went real slow. Biggest problem was getting the oil out of the transmission without getting it all over the place and getting the oil into the transmission. You will need a 3 foot length of hose and a funnel, also a filter wrench, the kind that fits on the end of the filter to remove the engine and transmission filters. Search this thread, tons of info on doing a 50 hour service on BX2200.

Good Luck

I consider that first 50 hour maintenance to be pretty important, and it's a bit expensive, especially if you have the dealer do it instead of doing it yourself. However, I think if you'll read the schedule in your operator's manual, you'll find that future maintenance intervals are much farther apart, so it's not really very expensive after that first one.

The 50hr service is very important. You will see what we mean if you do the service yourself when you clean the hydrostatic transmission screen. You can have your dealer do it if you like. But it is kind of like changing oil and filter in your car. You can make a mess and get your hands dirty or you can take it to a Quick Oil Change shop and pay three times as much for the convenience. If you decide to do the job yourself just take your time and follow the Operators Manual. I would suggest that if you want to try it yourself try this first. Open your hood, take off the side covers. Now see if you can get the motor oil filter on the right side to turn to the left. Sometimes it can be a bear to break loose. If you can get it to start to turn then stop and tighten it back up until you have all the fluids and filters you will need for the job. Autozone auto parts stores will take your motor oil and hydraulic fluid to recycle. You might want to call them first for there policy on how much they will take at a time. I believe they will take up to five gallons at a time. If you are not comfortable working on this kind of equipment then I would recommend that you take it to an authorized Kubota dealer for the service. It doesn't have to be the one you bought from, if you have more than one dealer in your area you can check on their prices. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

To echo the other posters, the 50 hr service is very important, but is not worth $250.00 I presume that anybody that owns a tractor must be good with his hands and not shy of getting some oil on his hands or clothes.

For my own 50 hr job, I did it myself. Most of the cost was in purchasing 5 gallons of hyraulic fluid, that was much more than I needed. Get yourself a regular oil filter removing wrench, they cost about $5.00, a pan to collect the oil will run you less than $10.00. If you are concerned about the waste, get a fuel container and store the waste there until you can donate it to your dealer. Buy a funnel long enough for the hydraulic fluid and an adjustable wrench for the hydraulic line filter/screen, and some regular cleaning fluid for cleaning the screen. All these materials can be bought at a Fleet Farm/Home Depot/Autozone kind of store.

The whole process should take less than 2 hours, and you will enjoy it. Spend the $150.00 you will save on another attachment/implement.

I don't know.
I'll throw out some controversy...
The metal on the screen could stay on the screen for 1000 years and not hurt anything. The hydro fluid looks fine (and after 50 hours, they don’t recommend changing it that much, so time doesn't affect it.

I think, just change the oil and blow out the air filter.
Laugh at the $250 or $300 they ask to do the service.

Yep, that oughta do it./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif Now I have no empirical evidence that says you're wrong, but I wouldn't want to chance it with my tractor, or car or other vehicle. And if you ever did have a serious problem with one and had no evidence that you'd followed the manufacturer's recommended maintenance, I think the warranty just might be denied.

The maintenance seems to me to be to change ALL the fluids at 50 hrs. and then every 300 hrs except the oil which is every 100 hrs.. I had a leaking hydraulic hose replaced and the transmission fluid topped off at 25 hrs. That and the front axle fluid are clean. The oil does need to be changed but that is easily done without a trip to the dealer. I just wanted to make sure I was reading the schedule correctly. Thanks for all the help.

John,

Topped off, how much did they put in?? , the transmission holds a lot of fluid. I would still clean the screen on the transmission, when I did mine it had metal in it. Also the front axle oil was dirty, the last say 6-8 oz ran dirty. My feeling is it worth spending $100 now on something that cost you $16 K, to perhaps not have a problem that will cost you big $$ and most important, lost seat time! Guess only you can answer that one, for me it was not a tough call.

My 2 cents

Happy Holiday’s

rogue:

You're right about the metal on the screen. What really convinced me as to the wisdom of the fluid change was the color of the trans and front axle oil when I did the 50 hour. Both were dark gray, indicating that a lot of break-in material was suspended in the oil. I suspect that the trans oil color was from the brake material, since the brakes run in the oil. I was a bit surprised by the front axle oil, but there are quite a few gears that will initially run in and leave some fine particulates. Although it ran me about $ 120 plus a couple of hours, unless you want to keep lapping all of the moving parts, I think that the 50 hour is a wise investment.

The transmission fluid needs to flow through the lines freely. I realize that the amount you remove from the screen at 50hrs. isn't going to block the flow. But you are suppose to clean it at other service intervals also. I doubt that my Kubota will last 1000 years but I do hope to get at least 20 to 25 out of it. Wife says I have to. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
