The diesel shop working on our misfire problem, noted in another thread, found the plastic propeller shaft fan is missing some blades, causing vibration from imbalance. I suspect this may have been this way for many hours, though I had no clue about it until now.

I am considering installing the fan myself. Our Kubota dealer says this problem with missing blades is common and has them in stock. The part is only $12, but installation is over 3 hours of labor. I do not have a shop manual, so I do not know how much needs to be removed to deal with this. Can anyone share their experience with this replacement?

I have a parts blow-up. It looks like the fan is held on by two bolts. To save a lot of time and effort, I am wondering if it might be possible to cut the fan in half to install it without removing the prop shaft, then secure with the two bolts and epoxy the two seams.

Please advise.

Thanks in advance!

Cutting and gluing is the quick way. The proper repair is many hours, basically you have to strip much of the tractor. There are threads on here detailing the repair.

A few years ago, there was a guy who was designing an split fan just for this repair. I wonder if he has made any progress on it?

Scooby,

I tried searching for this topic, but got massive amounts of irrelevant posts. Can you please advise how I can more effectively search for exactly the info you are referring to?

Thanks!

Doc, sometimes you just have to weed through the irrelevant stuff lol;) I agree the search through the site isnt the best. I usually use a google search, referencing TBN as the site.

That should give you a bit of a start. There are many threads related to fans and their protection. 3 pages in google just from TBN alone! I couldnt find the exact threads I was looking for however.

A couple of weeks ago I replaced both CV boots on my BX23 drive shaft. The entire process took about two hours at a leisurely pace. This included repacking the CV joints before installing the boots. Replacing the fan would have only taken five minutes longer. I was told that the ROPS and fenders would have to be removed, along with the floor pan. After looking at it for a bit, I unbolted the floor pan from the fenders and was able to remove it with everything else still bolted in place. I'm pretty sure that the BX22 is about the same as the BX23.
As you can see in the picture, the fenders are still in place.

The BX22/2200 is much easier than later models according to our mechanic. I had our BX2200 in for something else and they replaced the fan while it was in and torn down.

OK, how the heck did you get the floor pan off w/o removing the pedal?:confused3:

After doing the repairs, I put the pedal back on temporarily, so I could drive the tractor to where I could rinse things off.

Thank you. Must be sorta cool to drive it and be able to see (feel?) the fan working. :)

Their was a thread a few weeks ago from a poster that if I remember right removed one of the drive shafts ? And may e a few other items. He said it was much easier than the conventional way on other threads here.
