BX22 vs. B21

Ouch! My dealer was around 23,500 or so on a new B21, and he had a used one (56hrs) on the lot for around 21,500. You might want to shop around a bit on price.

Stokes, I believe you could do the projects you are considering but it will take some time. The B2910 could be a better unit for you if you plan on mowing in the future at these properties. The 2910 has greater PTO hp and will work a larger rotary mower. If the loader capacity were more important than mowing needs I would say the B21 has the edge. The B21 price is a bit higher than in my area. The B7800 would also be worth a look in this size range tractor.

With your plans being mostly land development I would suggest you take a look at the L3130. It is a larger framed tractor in the same horse power range as the B2910 and B7800 but offers several advantages for the type of work you plan. There would be greater loader capacity and you could handle a longer reach backhoe. The extra weight also works to your advantage while grading and developing the land. You may be surprised how competitive the price is to the smaller tractors.

I just purchased my B21 about three weeks ago. I have never used a BX22 but I too was looking at both of them before my purchase. The B21 is more of the industrial model, not made for mowing the lawn really. I was not purchasing the tractor to be an all around tractor. I wanted it to dig holes and move piles of material. I was told by a dealer (not where I bought it) that if I wanted it for those purposes, I would be disapointed with the BX compared to the B21.
The B21 is nearly 2x the price of a BX22 when new, I bought my '99 for the price of a new BX22. It all depends on what you want to use it for. The B21 TLB weighs about 4200 lbs not sure on the BX, but if you transport that is also a consideration. I have a 18' 7700 gvw trailer with 4 whl brakes to move it.

I agree with Mark, that when looking at a NEW B2910, you should seriously compare it to the Grand L 3130 HSD.

My dealer quoted a price difference of less than $100 (one hundred dollars!) between the two. Granted, the optional mid-PTO for the L3130 was an additional $300 if you wanted to ensure that the features were the same.

With the BX22, I have to be careful with the hoe to keep it from moving the tractor around because of the light weight of the tractor. The 2910 only weighs about 200lbs more than the BX22. Of course, the loader and hoe for the 2910 weigh more also, but when using the hoe, the loader is on the ground and the hoe is doing the work, so the weight of the tractor is important. I would definitely go with the L30 series - you will get almost twice the tractor weight compared to the 2910. I expect you could get the L3130HST, 723 loader and BH90 backhoe for the 26k price quoted by the dealer.
Forgive me if wrong on any of this info - don't have it all handy to look at and just going from memory!
