What size drill did you use? I am going into Home Depot this week so I can pick up the right size if I don't have it in my "drill drawer".
Thanks )</font>

I was a .390 or 25/64ths. This made a nice close fit. Get that right angle drill or you'll have problems getting access with a standard length drill and bit! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

We just installed the high output alternator on a new BX23 and ran into the same problem. We solved it by making a bushing 10mm by 8mm for the alternator and using a longer 8mm bolt thru the bushing. Hope this helps.

We considered doing this but it would add over an inch to the length of the bolt and we were concerned over the twisting force bending the smaller bolt. Our intellectual side said it would probably be fine but the fact that the engineers saw fit to upgrade the size of the bolt left us with doubts. In the end we drilled.

Bob-Thanks for the info.....I stopped by Home depot and picked up a Milwaukee close quarter drill. I'm now off to sort thru my pile of drills to see if I can come up with the right one.

I am hoping that because I am ready that I will have but to tap out the bushing. Wishful thinking on my part!

I have already spent a fortune on tools and I don't have a right angle drill any longer.. actually I do have the old Makita, but the battery is shot... I have good batteries for the DeWalt, but no drill.. Do I buy the drill or buy the battery.... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I should have had the dealer install it when it was new instead of getting it in the box. If I had him install it, it would have been another two weeks before I would have been able to get the truck again to pick up the tractor... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
I wonder why the kit hasn't been updated to accommodate the engine changes???? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I just bought the angel drill (over $100) with the hopes that when I go to install the upgrade kit I won't need it and can return it for my $$. At least that is what I told my wife. I could always keep it as one can never have enough tools, tractors, money or whatever.
After I get my kit from my dealer I'll install it and let you know what I find. It would appear that the difference in the blocks for the various motors may be foundry or factory specific in Japan. I remember when Ford had different blocks based on whether it was made in Windsor or detroit. Maybe Kubota has the same situation.

Well, you could always wait and see if you have the bushing! You might not need to drill at all! It's a shame to spend $100 for a drill when it only cost $60 for the dealer to install it! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

The starter wasn't that bad to remove, either. Only a couple of bolts and they weren't too rusty.
