BX2200 Seat Belt Killing Me

If you felt like you were tipping over TWICE and you live on flat land, perhaps you really better engage the best safety device on your tractor, you know, the one between your ears. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Seriously, you really should think about how you are operating your machine. On flat land a rollover is highly unlikely if you are operating your machine in a reasonable manner.

Think before you do, you'll live longer. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Oh yeah, you might just want to slow down a tad too! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Wow. That hurt. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

In clearing my property I have been removing alot of stumps and brush. The ladn is flat, yes, But in the process of clearing I have some uneven areas to navigate around. There have been a few pucker moment no doubt, but I still would rather be able to exit the tractor if it's gonna roll. That brings up a question, Has any one heard about or had a bx tip over? I haven't heard anyone on this thread speak of it. I still think that with the center of gravity of these machines it would be very hard to tip one unless on a grade.

By the way, I do go slow while working. I have never even had it in high range other than to check out the operation of it. I mean no disrespect to all of the seatbelt wearers out there, I just don't agree with it for my situation.

If you have ever seen a tractor turned over by someone else, you wouldn't think that you could always get off of it. I saw one, turn over backward once. There was no way, he could have gotten off. It is also, that way most of time with side turnovers. When you are least expecting it, is when you will turn over. You will not be ready and more than likely couldn't get off if started over anyway. Get your life insurance payed up and say by the the family.

I find it funny that my bx owners manual states that if using the tractor with the rops down " do not wear seatbelt" and if the rops is up, "wear the seatbelt" . You would think that statement would open them up for liability. Or maybe they realise that there are alot of tractors and mowing machines out there that don't have a rops or even a seatbelt. I have talked with alot of tractor owners in my part of the country that would never wear their seatbelts because they have no rops. I personally don't raise my rops unless I'm using the backhoe. So, Thank you for your concern(?). I do appreciate it, but I could do without the sarcasm for the choices I make.

No sarcasm here, I just feel sorry for your family.

If I had any family I'm sure they would appreciate your sympathy.

Things do change when you are responsible for others. I know that I use to drive real fast, but having children now, I try to think about them. And what would happen if I died in a crash. Even without an immediate family, I am sure that someones life would be effected if anything bad, happened to you. Good Luck, some choses are hard, because they sometimes go against the natural grain.

Thank you for the nice reply Jerry.
I was just foolin' about the family though. I am married with kids. In all honesty, the couple of times that I had a scare with my tractor, I think that it was the newness of it making me feel as if it was going over so I would jump off. I think both times happened under 50 hours. I have had the tractor for three months now and have put 196 hours on it to date. The movements are becoming much smoother and the "think before do" action has become a habbit. I really do go slow and methodical when using it . I noticed the other day when I was moving a stump and my front tire went into a rut that the feeling of the tractor leaning felt much more stable than when I first started using it. However, I was going slow and all was well. I think all of life has a certain amount of risk. Each of us will find his comfort zone in the midst of it all. Thanks again for the kind concern.

For the Jumpers and those who chose to not wear their seat belts, take a few moments to review some of the information contained at this site.

The information was obtained by doing a search for seat belts via their fatalgram page.

http://www.msha.gov/INDEXES/fatals.idq?CiRestriction=seat+belts&CiScope=%2Ffatals%2F&CiMaxRecordsPerPage=10&TemplateName=query&CiSort=rank%5Bd%5D&HTMLQueryForm=query.htm&x=9&y=14

I do not always wear my seat belt, having read most of these fatalgram reports, MY Seat Belt Will Be On.

Cheers John
