JDIOWA ; I thought for about 4 months on the comparison between the 455, the BXs, and the 4100. what made up my mind in the end was the price. In my area the price delta between a 4100, the BX, and the 455, was not very much so I went for the 4100. Plus I got it in the last year before the change to the new 4xxx series. It may be a little bit of overkill for what I normally do "Mow", but it is great for pushing snow, moving mulch, ...etc, in very fast order. also since the 4100 was in its last model year, so I did ok.

Welcome to TBN

Value is in the perception of the user. I looked at the construction of the 455 versus the construction of the BX and disregarding the features, the BX was beefier -- seemed far more able to take a beating -- and mowing on my terrain had already burned out 1 garden tractor.

4wd was a no charge extra -- and when it came to removing snow on a 400' drive and mowing on some 20 degree banks, it was an oft welcomed extra.

The warranty on the BX was better too -- and that said something about the mindsets of the 2 companies and what they thought of their respective offerings.

Wow..get back on the blood pressure medicine, RPM

This is an open forum, no?

Does this mean you respect my opinion? From the tone of your earlier defensive reply, obviously not.

Hmmm. So - you owned a BX and traded it for a 455 and now you're complaining that you got a crappy price for the BX when you traded it. First, I don't believe it - in fact I don't believe you owned a BX at all.

Second, I would say that invalidates any other arguments you're making here. Not too smart of a decision. If your argument about trade-in is true (which it's not) then you were probably better of keeping the BX even if you weren't thrilled.

Why, thank you for calling me a liar and stupid to boot. Guess you validated my original point They also attack anybody who likes something different than the BX which usually comes off as a bit too defensive to be sincere and makes me wonder why they all feel they have to impose and Undoubtably I have made a bad decision in somebody's eyes who feels a need to justify their own decision. I don't care if they are obsessed with telling everybody that their tractor is better than another.

And of course you asked,
So what brought you here then? Really? Maybe it's just that the average Kubota owner is more computer savvy... you've got to be kidding! ...and cares more about the details of the decision than joining a club of a particular color?

Actually, I was replying to the original post sincerely and made the mistake of warning him that "you" would be here, or at least someone like you. If he went to a green club and asked the same question I would have warned him about "them" as well. The reason I replied in the first place was that a visitor wanted opinions on the BX with a reference to owning a 4XX. Been there, done that in reverse. Sorry you don't believe me by the way. I don't give a rat's %@& what you think of my decision making porcess either.

At first I wasn't even going to dignify your reply (insults) with a reply of my own, but then perhaps you'd lurk up on me later. At least now I know who you are (or do I--that's the most anonymous profile I've ever seen...especially for a guy who has the credentials you do...to which chapter of ASME do you belong? My brother rekindled the ME student chapter at ISU in 1977)

Always up for a debate Not with you. You don't know how. Besides, real debate seeks to resolve and reconcile. You have no interest in considering the alternative opinion. OPINIONS, are what was asked and given, my man. It's apparent you would reduce any "debate" it to its simplest, least objective terms because of your fervent struggle with consumer cognitive dissonance, or perhaps if your love of your machine is that real, its just akin to jingoism and has reached a level of behavioral concern. Maybe you guys can work together to design a few more graphics of Kubotas crushing Deere, or perhaps paste a picture Bin Laden on a GT235, or something. The I can come back and rag on you about making the Deere too small, or that maybe you should be pasting jpegs of the 4010 or 4110 under the wheels of you "GIANT" BX (...without a loader/ Why bother...) instead of a lawn tractor

BTW, your 3 point hitch is rated at five more pounds than mine and has a couple of inches in extra spread. The ASAE specs are different (greater) than those of your "Cat 1" /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

I'm listening and he did not score any points with me. Don't think he really wanted to help the original poster, either.

I registered because I'm starting to visit more often. Think Im done with the Kubota discussionsthough. Some of these guys need to get a little more fresh air and sunlight in their lives. Oops, guess I'll be flamed for that too.

See yah

That's you... I didn't need beefier or I would have gone for the filet minion (L7500 4100) not ground chuck (BX).I have flat, dampish rich soil and cut off 20 minutes of mowing time by going to the 455. Better fuel consumtion, better cut....gawd, I quit. Beter to keep my mouth shut.

What's the problem? You gave your opinion. I'm giving mine.

I allowed that value perception is in the eye of the beholder -- and gave you my perceptions. Some of my perceptions happen to be well documented -- like warranties.

Construction is well documented too -- but some may view plastic as better than steel. Myself, I prefer steel.

Filet mignon versus ground chuck? Maybe -- but I don't think so. I think the BX is filet mignon -- but a 6 oz portion versus a larger cut. The BX versus a 455 -- I think that may be Filet Mignon versus top sirloin.

I don't have any problem with your opinion--I quit typing because I realized I was repeating exactly what I said when the retaliation for my opinion started.

I'll clarify my "beef" opinion:
Filet Minion=Compact Utility Tractors

Ground Beef =GTs including the BX

If you think you've got 95% lean an the 455 is fattier, more power to you. I have the perfecet balance of fat and lean for my taste (use). It IS possible that we are both very happy and are expressing that, don't you think? You guys should just try to imagine that not everybody has the same needs as you---geez

These BBQ analogies are making me hungry.

Dinner time,

Brad,

I'm glad you're happy. That's the bottom line. And I'm happy too. Enjoy your dinner.

JDIOWA - Thanks for registering, and welcome to TBN! I think you'll find that the folks here are pretty tolerant of diverse opinions. On most issues, in fact, there's quite a bit of healthy discussion, which might in other places be called arguing. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Speaking for myself only, though, there are too many instances of somebody anonymously posting a message just to see what they can start. An occupation the old-timers around here have always called "stirring tje pot to see if it'll stink". So, I hope you'll pardon some of us for not showing the patience and forbearance we normally would for folks we "know".

As to your being "done with Kubota discussions", don't be. You'll find that most of the Kubota owners who frequent it are just as open-minded and tolerant as you are. That would be ok with you, wouldn't it? Not only that, but most of the regulars there aren't just Kubota fans or just John Deere fans or just Pink Tractor fans - that would be too limiting. We're just equipment fans (short for "fanatics"). So, you can probably best fit in, and you'll certainly learn the most, if you frequent all the forums. If you just want to give your opinion and be congratulated for it, maybe the John Deere forum would be your best bet - at least you may find fewer people disagreeing with you there - but I woudn't count on it.

Most likely, though, you're like the rest of us who come here originally because we're trying to find out something, then stay here because we learned a lot more than we ever imagined we might - and met some really fun folks along the way. If so, you'll find the TBN gang pretty good company. I hope that's the case for you, so, as I said: "Welcome!"
