Backhoe BX2200 w/ a Backhoe! Why not??...

   / BX2200 w/ a Backhoe! Why not??... #21
I would like to see a photo of this, to take to my dealer and see what he thinks. When I ask about this on my 2200, he tells me that the frame will NOT take the twisting of the backhoes that work on 3 pt hitch setups. I dont think he is just trying to sell a 23, since I asked him about the pricing 17000, with FEL and BH, 60" MMM. He knows I am not going to trade. He does not recommend this.

Is it possible the 2230 is heavier framed than the 2200, so that this is possible?

Good news: just got off the phone with a guy at Wallenstein. He said that they are very close (circa 1 month) to completing work on the BX2200 subframe for the GX600 backhoe.

Contact Mitch Elkins or Bobby Tucker at Implement Sales Co. in Atlanta GA at 770-908-9439 for distributor info.

I spoke to a representative of Kubota today and he explained that they would have loved to have been able to make a kit that would adapt to the BX2200 models, but that it wasn't a feasibility because of the amount of labor involved and the costs of producing the kit itself. His explanation is that the tractor would have to be disassembled and then rebuilt with different parts to accomplish this. They considered it, but after doing all the studies came to this conclusion that the labor alone would put it out of the price range. Another comment when I asked about the other companies that were working on developing a backhoe for the BX, his comments were that the sub frame would make the mower impossible to use unless you removed the aftermarket sub frame. Another point that he made is that the hoe would be further out than on the BX22 and the weight balance wouldn't be there. The BX22/23 is not just a slight modification of the BX1800/2200. It is different in more ways than the casual observation would indicate. If you want the backhoe, then sell the BX2200 and buy the BX23. It is properly designed for what it does from the ground up. I learned a lot talking to this man and some of my previous opinions about Kubota have changed as a result. It was enlightening about the BX series beyond anything that has been in print before... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Actually you can buy all the parts that are used to enable the use of the backhoe. If I recall correctly it would be around $1,000 bucks. Yes there is a fair amount of labor to swap in these parts but if your time is "free" it's not so bad. The big part would be how much that BT600 would cost you. Buying it separately may be the real cost problem. I have not priced out the cost of just the backhoe because I made my own for my BX2200.

jrlichina:

You made your own subframe mount or you made your own backhoe? In any case, I think I speak for everyone on this forum when I ask: could we see pictures and could you give us a parts list and step by step instructions?

How have you been satisfied with the performance? How well does it work (good points and shortcomings)? Would you do anything differently if you had it to do over?

Thanks greatly in advance for replying!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

This assumes you can buy the BT600 as a separate product... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Somehow I think that might be the most difficult part, not the money involved.

Junkman, I agree with the Kubota rep's points, but also must note that sometimes it's not necessary to go to the n'th degree when choosing a course of action. For example, I live in an area where the prevailing soil characteristics are sand, sand, and maybe a little Alabama red clay. I think an aftermarket backhoe would be suitable for that, as well as my other major need (stump digging).

That said, if anyone reading this hasn't done so trot on down to your dealer and take a look at how the backhoe mounts on a BX23 & how the mounting frame is designed. That's some SERIOUS iron for such a small machine.

Given my circumstances (and there are some I haven't stated), if I were using a small backhoe a LOT, I would opt for trade-in for a BX23. But since I only have occasional need for one, I would opt for a third-party product or even just rent a mini-excavator as needed.

Tom_h,

I don't mean to speak for jrlichina but I've talked to him about his setup in the past. He built a Cad Plans backhoe for a previous tractor and converted it to work on the BX 3pt. He is a pretty creative guy and looked into coverting it to a quick attach shortly after the BX23 came out.

IF you could buy the BT600 you could convert the BX22xx to a BX23. The problem is Kubota can't offer a "kit" with the BT600 that would be cost effective due to the labor time involved for the dealer to install.

Later days,
Michael

Went to my dealer today and was assured that woods has a BH that will be out real soon....he said that some of the dealers has seen them and were impressed.....does not require a subframe....looks like a Kubota but has a curved dipper....

Guess I'll believe it when I see it!
Oh by the way....cost is 4-5,000....yipes!
