BX23 dead-man switch

"...If the rear one only is selected and the seat is lifted off its latch..."

Interesting, I had not thought about that. I will have to try to duplicate your results. Another excuse to go out and dink around with the tractor! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I just got my new WSM ("Workshop Manual Tractor BX23") on Friday. I've looked through it quite a bit, but so far I haven't seen a logic diagram for the safety interlocks...

OK, here is the straight poop, taken directly from Workshop Manual Tractor BX23 --

In order to start the tractor, the following conditions must be met:

[Ignition Switch to "Start"] AND [PTO Off] AND [Range Gear Shift Lever Neutral] AND [HST Pedal Neutral].

In order for the tractor to run, the following conditions must be met:

EITHER

[Ignition Switch to "On"] AND [PTO Off] AND [HST Pedal Neutral]

OR

[Ignition Switch to "On"] AND [Seat Support* Unlatched] AND [PTO Selected to Rear] AND [HST Pedal Neutral]

OR

[Ignition Switch to "On"] AND [Seat Support* Latched] AND [Operator Presence Control Switch** Closed]

* Seat Support Switch = white nylon lever. "Unlatched" means the seat is raised so that it can be turned around.

** Operator Presence Control Switch = black button. Switch is closed when operator is in the seat.

Something else interesting that I noticed on the schematic is that the work light connection (I believe this refers to the red and black wires with quick disconnects that are located under the seat) is "hot" only when the Seat Support is latched.

Thanks rimmer for the update. Where did you get your workshop manual. Sounds like a great source of info.

Hi Steve,

My dealer ordered it for me. It has been on order for a while, but I think that it just became available. He said that he just got his copy in the last week or so.

The cost was $73.80. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I did something the other day that made me think of this. Really surprised me that I would take such a chance. Cutting my neighbors yard I got off the 2200 to move some sticks I did not want to turn to shredded stick. Anyway, I left the MMM engaged and running, got up and when I looked at the blades moving.......I realized that the tractor had not died from me getting up and OFF the tractor.

Also realized how stupid I was to put myself in that position that something COULD get in there and be thrown out at me

The BX2200 doesn't have the safety interlocks that the BX2230 has, but I am certain that if you contact Kubota, they will give you the part number of the pieces that would be necessary to install the safety interlocks. Personally, I wouldn't want them, but I am also attune to disengaging the mower or even turning the tractor off if I am going to be getting off of it. It would depend on the situation and what I am doing. I wouldn't want all of the safety features that take away my freedom of choice.

Junkman just to clarify a little. SOME of the BX2200s have a seat safety switch. Mine, purchased Jun 03 came with one. I have not figured out when or what serial number these changed, as several on here have stated their 2200 does NOT have this switch.

Basically, if you have my unit in low/high and leave the seat, the engine dies. If you go to N, then you can tilt the seat (or leave the unit), and engage the pto.

I guess I need to try (or re-read the manual), but I think on mine, if I go to N with the PTO engaged, such as the mower, I can step off the unit. I didn't saw it was smart, just that I think I could do it.

Hope this helps.
Ron
