Kubota BX24
I am getting ready to use my 3 point hitch with a rototiller soon so I thought I would practice the BH removal. After watching all the video, reading the manual, I was ready.

I went out tonight, hoisted it with the dipper and.....one pin comes right out, the other won't budge. I dropped it back on the tires and the tight pin comes right out, but the other one is tight.

This is nothing like how easy it looked on the video's. What am I doing wrong (nice level concrete driveway). Even sprayed them with breakfree and tapped on the tight one with a hammer and it won't budge, so for some reason, it must be binding. Does it create a problem to remove one pin on the ground, the other in the air?

Thanks all....Jeff

I had the same issue bx23 and I don't know the last time it came off. So I had to persuade it with lube and a hammer and since then it has not been an issue. Comes off every time easy.

I noticed there been some complaints about the pin on the left side on BX24 being stuck. I know- I am one of them. I had to clean paint off from the holes. Since its new for you, you may need to have your outriggers down and use it in slightly up or down to twist frame a bit to get the pin out on the left side.

Good to know. I bought it used, and the pin moved freely on the left when it was on the ground, so I figured the backhoe lifting was just putting a bind in it. I am thinking that removing the left pin first, then hoisting it up on the BH to pull the right one out shouldn't be an issue since it isn't supporting anything (if it is coming out freely anyway). Using the outriggers is a good idea too.

Another thought I had is that my driveway has a very slight incline, so perhaps when I lifted it with the BH it was rolling forward enough to create the bind on one side.

Make sure you have the pin in so the hoe is centered and not swung a little to one side. It can fall without the pin in and it will also bind. Try using the stabilizers to tweak it a little and it will come right out. Clean and grease the hole where the pin goes before you put it back in.

When I had my BX24, I would remove and re-install the Backhoe probably 4-6 times a season. I actually got pretty good with it even if I do say so myself. :D

Anyway, I wanted to mention that using the stabilizer controls and stabilizers to shift the BH just enough to align the holes for the pins. Very small movements will often times release the tension on the pin. Watch the pins and you can see the tension coming off them as you manipulate the stabilizers as well the the boom.

Once done, it's a real easy task. Slick as snot with a little WD40 sprayed on the pins a couple times a year.

I have a BX25 and I to was concerned about removing and reinstalling the BH when I need to use the tiller, Boxblade or Overseeder. I have found the easiest solution, a bit more expensive but much easier. Bought a B2320 for 3ph work. Get it tomorrow.:)

What I have found is to use the stabilizers to shift the BH around like Mounted Madness suggests. It actually takes me longer to put the 3pt linkage back on.

yup .. I can attest to that !!:D:laughing:

You mentioned that the tractor was rolling forward, did you push down the fel to raise the front wheels off the ground... this actually helps to level the frame which is ultimately important to reduce flex causing the binding.

I don't know if this will make much difference, but on my BX-25, before pulling the pins, I push the boom down a touch. This pushes the top part of the backhoe tightly agianst the tractor. The pins merely slide out without any resistance.

yeah- the 25's series is aligned perfectly. 24's is a little off.

Hmmm, maybe my guy at the Kubota assembly plant in GA didn't get the memo  My right side pin (standing at the back of the tractor) needs a little help from the stabilizer to make it come out. Not a big deal but I haven't found one spot where both come out at the same time.

And I agree on it taking longer to install the 3PH than to remove the BH. Kind of cool how something so heavy can be manipulated through the miracle of hydraulics and gravity.

I once moved it a foot or two in the garage by hand once...:D:confused2:

Ahh, youth, I knew ye well once! When I was 18, I dug a 46' long, 42" deep foundation by hand. Now I need a BH to dig a hole for a shrub.

Amen brother....preach it.

I went to help build a playground area at church last weekend and kept offering to bring down the BX...."no, we won't need that". I will NOT listen to those young guys again. They let the old guy do the heavy lifting (pulling old concrete base steel fence posts, unload the Concrete blocks from the truck and carry them 40-50 feet one at a time) then laugh the next day when I am so sore I can hardly drink coffee. Not again. Next time if they want to move a soccer ball, I am showing up with the tractor.

Age and wisdom are not bad things. Just saying.
