BX24 Battery

Really? I had to get a new battery for my Expedition this fall and (O'Reilly auto) charged me $5 or $7 for a disposal fee. Crap!

That's what I mean, it's an auto store and not a battery shop. I realize everyone may not have this type of store within a reasonable driving distance.

Disposal fee or core charge?

The receipt shows +$9 and -$9 so I would say there is no core charge. I guess they put it on the receipt to show you they are not charging you.

I guess they used the "core charge" phrase, but that means the same thing to my way of thinking.

If you take your old battery back you will get your money back.

But if you bring in an old battery in trade in the first place, shouldn't it be a swap already? I can't imagine why I would ever bring the battery back to them since I still need one in the truck.

Yes, if you took your old battery in with you then they should have gave you a credit for the core charge.

So maybe it was a disposal fee and he just said core. :confused3: I think that was the original battery and it went 10 years. If I can get that outta this one, I won't sweat it much. :)

If its a "fee", its a charge.
If its a "core charge", its a deposit; you're entitled to you're money back with the return of the core.
Simple as that.

I'd be amazed if they actually charge a fee, because the price of lead is so high, the core has a lot of value. By requiring the return of the core, it helps keeps prices competitive.

Also, I believe many states actually require vendors to charge the deposit. That's so that people are inclined to return the battery for recycling, and not leave boxes of lead & acid on roadsides or parking lots.

I was watching one of those how it's done shows about lead. They said 95% of batteries are recycled but only 50% of aluminum cans. So the battery recycling works pretty good.
