BX24 capabilities

/ BX24 capabilities #21
After reading all the comments, I think you might be ahead to rent a large (bigger than the backhoe on the BX24) exevator with the thumb to tear the place down. I rented one for a week and it was only about $700 for a smaller one. I can think of several reasons of why not to use the BX.

  1. They have tracks, in other words hopefully no flats on the BX, the right puncture means replacing the tire.
  2. The reach on the BX hoe is not very long, and you will be constantly moving it, raising and lowering the stablizers, etc.
  3. The FEL lift height isn't very high, (I don't remember how you was planning on disposing of the material, dump truck?)

That's my two cents, you can give me change back if you don't like them.;)

BTW, I am not saying not to by the BX, I love mine, I just wish it was a little more powerful when it come to BH and FEL.

The bh is weak on the bx24, has short reach. Its more useful as a boom to lift things that aren't too heavy or as a ram type implement. None of the bh hydraylics are very strong/or quick. In the short period I've used mine the bh has not been satisfying enough for the 4 - 5 grand it ads in cost to the fel/tractor before it in the kubota line.

What about getting it burned down by a vol fire dept. Those nails/flat tires are going to be an issue either way. Buying a bx24 for the backhoe might leave you dissapointed and then you got flats to boot. It is useful they just need to boost the power/speed to the bh considerably. I'm supprised people like it as much as they do(the bh).

I'll look into renting a larger excavator for the tear down. Using the BX24 for the tear down was not the main purpose for the purchase but only a added bonus if it could do it. I still think it can but it would be too slow. I don't even have the BX yet, won't be here for another two weeks. I looked at purchasing a larger tractor but for most of what I need it to do the BX is the perfect size. Once I start the projects I might be wanting more power in the hydraulics but at this point it's a tradeoff.

Burning down is not an option. My neighbors house is within 20 ft of mine. That's not enough room. Also he rebuilt his cottage 3 years go and might be a little ticked off if his house goes up too.

I have been through the process you are facing and can honestly say the it would be a challenge for you and the tractor. Before the excavator arrived at my house I took a few stabs at it with the bx. I was really impressed with the power as the bucket tore right through the siding and three two by four studs and made a nice window into the living room. Fun? Heck ya! The main concern I would say is safety. You are just sitting too low when it comes to removing walls etc. and have the roof coming down. The bx also lacks height when trying to move debris into the dumpsters. I have done it with some custom made ramps but even then it was a challenge. My house had a basement so getting the walls out and footings and concrete floor would have been too much. A large excavator took about a day and a half to get the job done. The house went down in a blink but the clean up and dumpster loading were time consuming. The money you will save by having a big hoe compact the house into far less dumpsters should be in the equation. I remember my guy laughing because they said he should have to pay more as he fit 30 yards into a 20 yard dumpster. When you see the process in action you will realize the immesnse power of the machinery.

hopefully this post is helpful.
