BX24 HST fan replacement

   / BX24 HST fan replacement #11
last year I made a skidplate roughly 24 inches long from plywood with a few odd cutouts where needed (for oil filter) , then hung from 1/4 bolts using plumbing strapping cut to length (roughly 3 inch pieces to reach to four existing holes in the frame , double nutted the bolts so they stay in place while just needing to remove one nut to slide straps off ..........works for me , can take on and off in ten minutes, and 3/4 plywood will stop any stray sticks. If I hit anything that can go thru the plywood then I should not be driving.

Is that a truck brake drum mounted on the left axle in your picture? If so, that would be a neat way to add weight. But how is it mounted???

According the the guy that posted that picture, it's actually an inside wheel weight that also serves as a spacer. So you get both of those benefits and a clean look from the outside of the wheel. Not sure of how it's mounted.

I still think i would section the shaft when I have to replace mine.

Cut shaft with sawzall have shop machine both half's for rigid shaft coupling

put both half's back in with new fan and rigid coupling. next time it will only take 1/2 hour.

That is what will happen to mine if a stick ever makes it past my skid plate.
