Kubota BX24
Guys,

I have a Kubota BX24. One of the safety switches is not reporting closed when in the starting position so the starter will not spin.

My understanding is that there are the following safety switched:

1) Treadle: to make sure the machine will not try to move when started.
2) PTO: must be in PTO NOT engaged (all the way to the back)
3) Neutral; must be set so trans is in neutral
4) Seat: someone must be in the seat

I think the one that is troubled is the PTO.

Have tried every combination of key-on jiggle I can think of. Not happening.

Tractor is currently in a place where the left rear wheel cannot be removed to work on the PTO switch.

How can I bypass that switch to get this fella started so it can be moved to a place to work on it?

Also, where can I get a reasonably priced downloaded service manual for this beast? I do not have one!

Thank you,

Mike Starling

I don't know BX so I can't answer your PTO question. You could check into Orange Tractor Talks for more specific info.

If the tractor has a loader, set it to float, get a shovel or wedge as a fulcrum and pick up the loader an inch or two then take it out of float. Chock the wheels, and release the brake. Push it/winch/tow it forward or backward, chock the wheels, set the brake, and set the loader down.

This will let you see what you are working on. I've learned to not try to work on equipment in confined spaces for many reasons.

I have a BX24 and have had problems with that switch. Try just letting the PTO engagement lever snap back to the off position. That got me by for a little bit. If not the switch is fairly accessible without removing the wheel. Put the PTO selection lever to the forward position. Then the two adjustment screws are pretty easy to get to. The adjustment is not hard to make and is pretty obvious.

All of my safety switches are functional. I have had my BX24 new since 2004. I would have to go do some testing to see what combination of switches allow/don't allow starting. But I know you cannot start with the PTO engaged. You CAN start with the transmission in either high or low range. You can start it not being in the seat.

What dougtrr2 said.

That switch has a hair trigger and can get out of adjustment. I've been able to verify - and get the machine started - by reaching around the tire and slipping something between the switch and lever to depress the switch.
