I can't even seem to find the Wallenstein thumb for sale anywhere. Anyone have any ideas?

Hey Snatch. I contacted the guy and told him someone else was interested in ordering one. He told me he put up another E-bay listing, but I don't see it. It may take a few minutes for it to show up. If I don't see it appear, I'll contact him again.

My BX24 will be delivered in about 84 hours :D and the more I read, the more I think that I should be ordering a thumb. I have many, many piles of dead trees around my house from when my house was built, and getting rid of them will be one of the first jobs I hope my BX can help with. So, I have a couple of questions.
  1. Not factoring in the cost difference, which thumb do y'all think is better, the Bro-Tek or the Wallenstein? I realize a grapple for the loader may be what's really best, but that expense is going to have to wait.
  2. I see many instances of people using thumbs to pick things up, but can you also safely (to the human and the tractor) go driving around carrying things? I was always under the impression that you shouldn't ever really drive around without the backhoe in its parked position. If a thumb is only good for picking things up and remaining stationary, it wouldn't be as helpful as I had hoped.
Thanks to anyone who may have feedback!

Congratulations on the new purchase. It's nice to have another bx owner in chester county. Three questions for you:
1. Which thumb did you end up going with and why?
2. Where did you end up buying the tractor from? I'm going to need to do a 200 hour service on my 23 soon and will need some fluids.
3. Check your pm. The last question wasn't thread related.

Hey Scot. You're pretty close by. I'm up 23 in South Coventry.

I got the Wallenstein one because from the things that I read, it seemed that it would be better for the tasks I have in mind. I have lots of tree piles around my house from when my house was built that I have to get rid of. I'll be moving more trees and needing to hold some for bucking more than I'll need to move rocks and things. So, that's why I went with the Wallenstein.

I got the tractor from Messicks in Elizabethtown. At least, I think that's where it's coming from. They have two locations, but I didn't go out. I just communicated with Neil, who frequents these boards, via e-mail and put my order in that way. I wanted to go with a closer dealer, such as Erb and Henry in Boyertown, but the price from Messicks was much better.

Thanks much. If I can find that guy mentioned earlier selling it for $325 I can't see any reason to pay an extra $75, but it's nice to have options.

I know right about where you are now. I'm just off of rt 23 and 345 behind the dodge dealership before you get to Elverson.

Since you are now less than a day away from delivery, I was just wondering if you were able to sit still? And I'm assuming that you're already planning on not going to work tomorrow just so you can get a to know the new toy err I mean tool a little better.

I may be up at the dealer soon to see about trading in my Dakota for a Ram now that I have some heavier stuff to tow. :D

No, I absolutely cannot sit still. I'm sitting at work watching the clock and calculating seconds, minutes, and hours and things, completely harrassing my wife with instant messages with the number of minutes left and things like that.

We both took off tomorrow to do some playing! :D

I also have my little BX22 model that I've been carrying around with me for the past 1.5 weeks. I take it everywhere.

I tow my bx-23 with my 05 frontier on a 5x14 tandem axle trailer. I believe that this would be the bare minimum to pull a bx. So I guess I'm saying if you are going to buy a trailer, buy at least a 14ft and probably a 16ft tandem axle trailer.

Thanks srossman. I think I'd probably actually be fine to tow it with my Dakota (318 V8, towing package), and that was the general concensus here, but yeah, my 5-1/2×10' single axle trailer won't cut it. I think that's going on E-bay along with the tractors that will be ignored starting tomorrow.

Well that begs the question - Who was selling it for $325???
I bought mine from Hawkensen Equipment in Plymouth, NH. ChuckinNH got his at Pinnacleview Equipment, Inc. in Walpole, NH for $312.

Chappell Tractor Sales in Milford, NH was the one trying to gouge me. I won't be going there again.

My dealer finally got back to me and ordered it for $290 delivered. Can't ask for better than that.
