Gents might I please get some opinions here?

For my new BX25, in 48" width only, Gearmore has a box scraper that weights 355 Pounds in stock, it is a manual, 4 individual ripper tooth unit so each time you want to rip you have to drop 1 thru 4 teeth or 1,2,3 or 4 teeth, all manually done.

They also have in stock an old, but new, Gearmore w/ a hydraulicly operated ripper toothbar, all teeth of corse drop w/ ease via hydralic from the seat. My question is, the second hydralicly operated unit weights 445 Lbs. The manual says max weight of 375 LBS for a box scraper.

If I splurge w/ double or better the cost for the hydralically operated ripper bar am I hurting the unit as in overloaded? I here weight is your friend for a box scrapaer...:confused:

I am not finish grading every day, it is simply I have been trying to think ahead, I ain't gettin' any younga'!~

I use a 48" rototiller on my BX24 that weighs in at right about 500lbs. I only use it a few times a year, and since the spec on the 3pt is 670 lbs at 24" (I see it is the same on the BX25) I never thought about it being an issue for the tractor. Don't know why the manual says 375lbs for a box blade???

It would probably lift it and it would dig in really well, but then it will probably stop the tractor in its tracks and it would be hard to pull a full box. I have one of the 350 lb box blades; it's all the tractor can do to pull a full box. It's a tiny tractor... you can do some amazing things with it, but you don't have a lot of weight to begin with. Getting the right size so it works well gets more work done than simply finding the biggest, heaviest implement.

Thanx for the inputs....obviously the jury is out here. I just do not know the right way to go here... Oh well... PUNT, but leaning towards the hydraulically operated ripper toothbar. I could lighten the unit as well I guess... Maybe loose 2 teeth, I doubt I could dig to deep w/ 4 teeth! Maybe pop a bumch of 3" diamter holes in it at the top edge and screen it w/ x-panded metal? Sounds like work though... :eek:

With the teeth down on my Tractor Supply model, the teeth serve to pull the implement down due to their angle. No weight necessary when digging with the teeth. I plow full depth when plowing virgin soil, but if I lower so that the box starts to fill with dirt, I need a full speed run to keep moving!

Let's face it though... The hydraulic version is much cooler! :)

Oh, further to that,I that amount of weight doesn't seem like it should be an issue for a BX. Besides, the difference between the two is negligible. Do make sure that you can select the number of teeth on the hydraulic model... Sometimes all you want is one or two down.

Yes, I have been keeping in mind that surely, at times, one might want to select how many, AND which posistion teeth to lower....

TU!

No advice on which box blade to buy, but just gotta ask how you would run the hydraulic one from your BX25? Are you adding a vale and rear remotes?

How often do you paln to use the teeth? I wanted hydraulic teeth too!! I even have a valve available to operate it, but alas, I couldn't make any sense out of the $. I've been using my blade with manual teeth now for six years and haven't needed to use the teeth once.

Now see, there is some awsome input, from experience... TU

Regarding CHDinCT's Question;
There is a BLANK control valve opening in the right side fender inboard of the range selection knob I believe it is. Perhaps a valve there? What is the area for anywho? I have not got that far yet my friend. I am Sure there is a way that is not to complicated. If anyone has input please expound...
