Buying Advice BX2660 (2010, 267 hrs) or BX2360 (New with Warranty)

Hydraulics run on the same fluid as the HST tranny. Be sure HST works normally and the FEL likewise. The 3 point lift in back also raises/lowers the mower deck... you generally use one or the other at a time, not both.

Thanks GD4. Not knowing what you don't know is intimidating. I am enjoying learning though.

Check the color of the oil filter. The filter installed at the factory is black and would be replaced by a white filter at any subsequent service. I bought my BX2660 used with 135 hours and found out after the sale about the filter color scheme. Taking the deck on and off dosen't take long but it does require a couple of trips around the machine, kneeling and some time flat on your back,

Thanks everyone for the information. Newbury, most likely it does have that HST fan. But I understand an aftermarket skid plate will protect it (if it's not already toast). Thanks.

Do these BX's have the infamous easy break HST fan?

Yes they do though the newer models have a more effective protector than earlier models, it is still pretty vulnerable and most put a protector from Bxpanded or Bro Tek, we have them on both of ours, John Deere SCUTS prior to the 1023/26/25 had this design also.

If you keep the MMM on the unit, the fan will be protected!

With my luck I'll probably have to eat these words next week but we've run our BX for 8 years without damaging the fan, mostly by staying on familiar terrain. However, it's obvious that going into any place with dead sticks on the ground and "breaking trail" through tall overgrowth would run a great risk of something taking out that fan. The skid plate is one of those "better safe than sorry" ideas, though.
