Cab or No Cab

Ideal situation,.. Open station for those wonderful warm days with comfortable breezes, not a bug around, and no filthy work to do. Cab tractor for everything else.
and I am near 60, and the fun of the challenge has worn a little slick. So everyone should have 2 tractors, (at least). Problem solved.:thumbsup:

I agree James,, I have two tractors one with and one without.. I use the without for raking and tedder,, because I drive fast,, the wind is always in my face and the bugs are at bay.. The rest of the jobs is with.. Lou

The tractor that I found a good deal on happened to have a cab on it. I really didn't give much thought about the benefits at the time, and all of my other tractors had been open.

I find it funny to watch the guys from Texas say, nah I don't need a cab, I like the rugged feel of the outdoors.

There were days this winter where I would not have been able to safely plow, or do other work due to low temperatures, and windchill without the cab. I don't usually have the luxury of rescheduling plowing the driveway, or other chores.

So you can have your open station down there, and ill keep my cab up here. :laughing:

This guy from Texas will NEVER buy a tractor without a cab or FEL. I have had many of both and cab beats and open station hands down as I enjoy the rugged feel of the A/C when it's 105 out.

I choose no cab, I didn't have the money for a cab and a cab'ed tractor wouldn't fit in my shelter where I keep my tractor. I only use my tractor in the winter to move snow and I enjoy moving snow with it when the sun is shining and the wind is not blowing. When the wind is blowing and/or sun is not shining.... I fire up my plow truck and move the snow in the nice warm cab of the truck.

Go for the biggest tractor you can afford. You will never hear anyone wish they had bought smaller.

This is why I bought an open station tractor. For me, I felt the money was better spent on more HP and options than a cab.

Well, the OP is from Alabama... pretty similar climate. So I think it's fair to point out that he won't be blowing snow in -20's.

And I legitimately do like being in the open air - that includes when it's 105 and dry out. That's why I put a canopy on my tractor. I like to sweat and get gritty from the dust.

But, again, it makes no difference to me whether someone buys a cab or not. Whatever suits them best. :thumbsup:

One of each for sure! I don't care for the cab on nice days..... Cold days Cab all day long..... I gotta say too if I had chosen my tractor without the cab last year when I attempted to move an old tree, Id be dead, darn thing fell on a perfect angle and smashed the roof. If i would have been in the un-cabbed tractor,even with the roll bar because of the angle the tree would have caught me square in the coconut!!!!

Grew up using open station tractors, hated the heat and dust doing field work in summer conditions. Now have cab tractors for that but still prefer being out in the open, can see and hear more. Don't do much snow moving so can avoid the extreme cold conditions that some have to endure. That being said I wouldn't farm without my cab and a.c..

Go for the biggest tractor you can afford. You will never hear anyone wish they had bought smaller. Agree with all above, you will never regret a cab just stay away from low tree limbs, they are way tougher than a cab. If you go with an open station those limbs will be beating you instead of the cab.

Unless your are totally fixed on a green tractor, there are real values out there to look at before making a final decision.

I'm 100% John Deere Green , I always have been and love John Deere. I'm in my 40's and my wife's grand father just picked up a new tractor pushing over $100,000 with cab. For me, I'm far from having that kind of cash. I mow a lot of land with a John Deere 997 and I am beat to death by the time I am finished. And did I mention it takes me 4-5 days mowing with a 7ft deck? I'm a contractor over seas, so during the summer time I'm home often and this is what I do mow the land. But I think with 50 acres (which is nothing compared to you fellows) a tractor sure would save me time.

Well... I did go to John Deere this afternoon. I looked at the 5055E - 5065E - 5075E. There was an 5085E but to be honest I thought it was a tad to much for what I plan on doing. And the cost was up there. I am leaning toward toe 5075E with or without cab

In opinions do you think the 5075E could get the job done, without pushing the machine, bush hogging, baling hay, moving hay, front end loader work, fertilizing, and your basic farm needs?

If I don't get the cab it will be due to funds. I'm in the middle of purchasing more land right next to ours and this is a cash deal. And I would rather have land than a tractor, gold or silver. I'm sure most would agree?

You guys have been great and I really mean that! If I could shake everyones hand and buy them a beer I would. I don't drink but I'd grab a diet coke.

It doesn't snow often here. If it does it's a tad and gone. Well speaking of snow it is now snowing outside. Rare thing here as much as we have gotten. Thanks @econometrics
