No real experts, just employees of the week.
It is a moot point now of course, but most of the Cabela's locations with tractors had an industry veteran in the sales role and all have experienced equipment techs in the shop. There are also many experts in their own fields throughout the stores. "Walking in" and "checking out" probably won't bring you in contact with the experts - no matter where the goods are manufactured.

Uh, or they're considered sensitive data not to be disseminated to foreign states, like our night vision technology or weapons guidance systems. ;)

China makes what we let them make for us. They knock off the rest. Now, not all Chinese factories are capable of achieving the highest quality, just like not every US manufacturer can machine themselves out of a box (a common expression for the competence of my last manager in the medical implant device industry btw).

Of course, but not all of the restricted items are sensitive like night vision or weapons guidance. Some are "normal" items that they simply aren't capable of making themselves. Generally speaking, many of those normal items are things that might help them make better defense equipment, but not always.

These are the people who built the Great Wall, and invented gunpowder. They're hardly stupid. It's high time we called a spade a spade and dealt with them as the thiefs they are. For some reason, that they hold a whole mess of fiat debt of ours seems to hold some weight with our government though.

The Chinese, as our largest trading partner purchase our Treasury debt as a way of diluting the value of the dollar against the Chinese yuan and increasing relative purchasing power of the Chinese yuan. However, as the growth of China has slowed (7% right now, we think, but cannot really know), the value of the dollar has increased against the yuan.

The fallout from a devaluing yuan is a two-headed chimera:

First, Chinese imports are deflationary when priced in dollars pressuring any domestically produced competitors which could pressure our own domestic economy.

Second, relative to purchasing power of the yuan, Chinese debt held in dollars has been ballooning. For this reason Chinese companies have been scrambling to pay down ands off ant debt that is owed in American dollars.

Contextually, investment monies go were those monies are treated best and the best prospects for some time was in emerging economies like China. As such China owes a pile of bond debt owed in American dollars. For this reason China purchased Treasury debt so as to increase the value of the Chinese yuan, and so doing, reduce the total value of their own debt.

A couple of data points:

In my home town, Walmart is revered for creating jobs. When there are none, even low paying jobs are good. And it seems the employees like working there.

Where I now live they just opened a New Walmart. New openings and closures are just part of business, adjusting to market forces.

I design electronics. Sometimes we outsource to China for manufacturing. We NEVER send them anything with source code on it. They will pirate the software/product in a heartbeat if they think they can sell it. We don't give them schematics, and provide as little indication as we can about what the product is or does. For testing, we give them generic parametric testing code and do the final code load/test here in the states. If there are special parts, like custom ASICs and such, we put them on here.

Cabelas and tractors is a horrible idea, mainly because if you are going to sell tractors then you must be prepared to service and transport tractors with your own technicians. No outsourcing. I wouldn't buy a tractor from anyone that outsourced service. Buyer beware.

Cabela's tractor locations have done all work in house - including initial set-up and prep / attachment & implement assembly & install / liquid filling (RimGuard) / delivery of new equipment / mobile field service & pick-up + delivery for service units - and have many very happy customers. Unfortunately as I said earlier in the thread it is a moot point now. Either way Cabela's is committed to continue to service their customers.

That's not what the scientists and engineers I've worked with have told me, and those are people who are intimately involved, not just bystanders (like me). There are good reasons why many high technology items are restricted from being sold to China....they simply aren't capable of producing them domestically.
Bull, every computer and all you guys iPhone are made in China. They have every bit of high tech equipment there is. Your fooling yourself if you think they just produce inferior products.....

Absolutely right. I watched them working on my tractor the other day. Drove it before they put the fel on it. And one of the techs delivered it. I will assume that the warranty will be done by same techs....

Anyone who thinks they can protect their software from the Chinese is incredibly naive. Its real simple . . a company cannot outbattle a country. The 60 minutes episode of 1- 17- 2016 is a perfect example. 1000s of U.S. companies are losing the battle because they think the fight is company to company. It is not. Its been happening for years.

I would not hold my breath. Once the tractors are not being delivered the techs will slowly be reassigned or leave. It won't be long before the staff turns over enough that if you ask about tractors, no one there will even know they ever sold tractors. If it were me I would be finding TYM dealer and see if they will honor the warranty. My guess is they will.

I went onto the Cabelas webpage and searched for tractors. Every model was rated 5 out of 5 stars. And the exact same reviews were posted for different models.
