TYM probably makes a fine machine. The South Koreans are good at making machine tools and automobiles, so their tractors are probably going to come out being good buys as their reputation develops. The only problem with them right now that anyone's managed to come up with is that they're relatively new to the market, so they lack a dealer network, and they were grossly over priced when Cabela's started pushing them - something which has been recently corrected.

There's nothing to have buyers remorse over. Handloader got a good deal and it's a nice little machine from what I saw.

I'm just saying that a guy buys s brand new tractor and a few predict doom and gloom for the product and supplier of the product just a couple days later . . Is just not a supportive effort. Handloader may not start with buyer's remorse . . But it can be influenced to that if posters are insensitive. There were a couple posters who weren't class-act type posts.

as always it's not what you say but how you say it, but yeah, we could ratchet that down a little. though I see only honest opinions here. The buyer may be getting a very good deal on a good quality tractor. Maybe not the best quality tractor, or one with the best advertising, but in a world market, likely a premium product vs what gets shipped to Borneo. If the buyer has a Cabela's store nearby with a service dept he can have a good relationship with, why not? It might be a high value proposition.

South Korea makes outstanding products. Hyundai. Samsung. These folks set high standards, relatively. Personally a made in Japan model might be a tiny bit higher on the fit and finish, maybe not. The Germans aren't really marketing their tractors to us, so for high quality, it's now Japan, South Korea and the US.
Anyone else? Mahindra (India) for sure has to be reckoned with.

One thing we all can agree on, the new owner of his Cabela tractor is going to have a lot of fun with it.

I think a closeout deal on a Cabela's tractor could be a super bargain. I don't see why the Cabela's branded tractor should be any riskier than buying a T YM tractor. Unless of course the TYM dealers would not be willing to support parts or service (which I doubt they would have a problem with) in the event Cabelas stops support for their tractors which is possible. Even still I'm sure that there are plenty of repair shops out there that can get parts directly from T YM if there was a repair that would be beyond what the purchaser could handle. Plus I don't care where you buy your tractor from there still a chance that they could close their doors the day after you pick up your tractor or discontinue one line and go to another it's always a risk and happens quite often. I would like to think that Cabelas would at least be around long enough to handle any warranty claims.

There's a reason why things like lasers, GPS guidance units, multiple axis CNC turn centers/lathes/mills can't be exported to China....they don't have the capability to produce them domestically.

I don't think its lack of capability. The companies who spent tons money on research, development and production, and our government in some cases, simply don't wont these products copied.

I will agree with this^^^.

My experience with Topcon laser, reeivers and machine control items has been that specific wiring schematics and details are impossible to find on the web. I have been looking for a couple of years.

I had used Haas CNC machines as an example of quality USA manufacturing, but it was pointed out that Japan and Germany produce better equipment, and since I am not really informed about that, I trust the poster's opinion- maybe our country is falling behind.
I am somewhat informed about architectural products, and I know that when China began consuming high-rise building curtain walls and high tech glazing systems, several European manufacturers, in attempts to hold onto their market shares for such products in China, started licensing their designs to Chinese companies. Now, the Chinese can make world class systems. Cheaply, since there was no, or very little, development and engineering costs for them. Caveat venditor.

I saw a Cabela's tractor with FEL and back hoe on a trailer this morning on my way to work. It never made sense to me on why Cabela's got into selling them. They seem to be decent tractors, I'd just be concerned on where to get it serviced.

Reverse engineering and theft to trade secrets are certainly areas of significant concern, but they are a lesser priority when it comes to export control issues. I worked this area for years and can say on a factual basis that lack of capability is what drives the majority of export control rules when it comes to China (and others) and items that are ITAR or EAR controlled. I said "factual basis" because the standards for ITAR and EAR are readily available and they make it pretty easy to tell which is which.

There are certainly times when it's not a lack of capability, in an absolute sense, but a lack of capability right now. In other words, we know that if they set out on a path, they can develop a certain item, but it's going to take them many years to do so. We don't allow that item to be shipped there because it would shorten the development time from decades to years or months.
