Cable TV Going 100% Digital :(

The kicker of this is when you cut the cord and watch more via streaming then go back and watch a digital channel you realize how many stupid commercials there are. I hate commercials and now rarely watch regular channels even though I get a bunch through my antenna. There really isn't much that is good to watch on those channels.

What are you using for an antenna? A good one will have more leeway and a wider directivity.

It is an omni direction Wingard 2002 hanging in the attic. It should be more than adequate for the distance to the tower. It is amplified but I think the amplifier's effectiveness has dropped. When we first go the antennae it brought it quite a few stations, now it is only a few. If I disconnect the amplifier we get nothing.

It works well enough for what we need. We really do not watch tv at all. If it works, it works. If not, who cares. :confused3::laughing:

We won't turn on the TV until maybe tomorrow and then it will be to stream something. On Sunday we might watch a PBS travel or cooking show. Or not. More than likely, the kids will turn on the TV on Friday, I doubt the wifey and I will. :D

Dan

Exactly. And to watch the show you want to watch when you want to watch. If you want to watch 4 shows in a row you can.

I think they only way we would pay for tv again is if we were disabled and were house bound.

I have been avoiding going to digital too, since no one in the house watches much TV. I took a look one day because I was curious about an ad that said 180+ channels. My current basic cable has 65 or 70 channels so I looked to see what else they had. Turns out they had the same channels I get now except in digital, and also a dozen or so channels dedicated to PPV, and about 100 channels that were just music. Not videos like MTV mind you, just streaming music by genre.

Blew my mind. How the heck do you call it 180+ channels and then only actually give about 70 of what ppl would actually consider to be TV?

I do use one or two music channels from DirectTV. All of the TVs in our house are connected to a head end system, so I can put the satellite on the music channel, and turn on any of the TVs in the house to channel 3 and listen to the same station all over the house. Kinda nice. Not $70 bucks a month nice, but nice.

We live in a town were there is no cable service and as far as I know there never will be, just not enough people to support the installation of the line.
We use Direct TV and and have for years, back when we started it was like $39.00 a month, now we are paying over $100.00 a month and there is more senseless programs, the picture is good but is it worth that much.
Most of the stuff we watch is on the history channel, local news and sports.
I just installed a new Smart TV in our motor home and with a cheap antenna from Radio Shack we can get local channels just wondering what it will be like on the road.
We also have a tracking antenna for satellite TV and will see how that works next month.

Cut the cable and move on. Best thing we ever did and we should have done it years earlier.
Agreed.

I haven't had cable or satellite tv since I moved back to Kansas from Arkansas when I was 20 years old. So I've gone 6 years so far without any paid tv and I haven't missed it.

I hardly turn on the television anyway. Most of the good old shows I can find online. I do have free over the air channels that I watch sometimes and those channels are all I need.
