Can a BX 2230 handle a 5ft landscape rake?

I was originally going to get a 4 footer but the dealer only has 5 footers in stock.

I use a 6' rake behind my subcompact. There were occasions when it bogged the tractor down a bit before I got the gauge wheels, and ended up dragging a huge pile of dirt behind. I'd think the BX should be able to handle a 5' rake just fine. I can't really feel the extra 2 hp that my machine has over my neighbor's BX22 up here at a mile above sea level, so they're pretty much comparable as far as power is concerned.

By the way, I used to pull a 4' York rake behind an old Jacobsen garden tractor with a 14 hp Kohler gas engine in Connecticut, and your BX is a lot more powerful than that was.

I have a 5' on my BX23. It has no problem handling it.

I think you will like having the 5' more than the 4'.

I have a 6' that I use behind my BX2200 sometimes, simply because I had it before getting the BX. On my B2910 I wish I had a 7' sometimes...so the 5' should be a good fit for your BX, and I think it will turn around without having to do the simple modification to the 3PH to give more lift (drill new holes in the lower ends of the lift rods).

Henro, I haven't done the mod on mine like you have. I keep meaning to and I printed out your post on it a long time ago. But I am able to rotate the 5' rake without the mod. I haven't tried to rotate it yet after my wheel installation though. I'll have to try that one next time my hoe is off.

6' rake here. Not much time on it yet though but ... it's just a rake. Not sure I can turn it 360° even with the lower link mod ... not sure I care.

I have the King Kutter XB series 5' landscape rake on the BX23 and it works fine. I think the 4' rake might be too narrow when angled. The gage wheels aren't on the market yet, but they should be in a couple of weeks according to King Kutter.
