Here is my review of the defender. I'd not put the commander in the utility department.

I thought that was an interesting review.

Does that U shaped pipe at shoulder height get in the way while getting in/out? I banged into it when I stuck my head inside to look at the dash.

I have to agree you sort of sit down low in the Talon. Before I ever rode it I made some 1.5" spacers that lift the drivers seat up for better visibility. It really did help give me a better view. They have a bunch of headroom so Im guessing they put you down low for the high speed handling?? The places we ride I almost never go over 20-25mph so it works for us.

I do have to say the RZR's seem to have one of the best rides from the factory, Polaris is pretty good at dialing in a suspension system.

I really like the looks of the MAVERICK X3 X RC TURBO RR but that machine is pushing $30K new. Thing is wicked fast but I also believe that is what hurts the reliability a bit. Anytime you run them that hard something is more likely to break. Have to pay to play.......

I really enjoy my 2017 1000S. I live just down the road from the Paul Bunyan State Park that features piles of trails, most of those trails are restricted to trail machines, machines like the 1000S. Wider, more powerful machines wouldn't be able to run around on as wide of a network of trails in my area. In the past year I put over 2500 miles on my 1000S running around all over, visiting friends, eating out, group rides, and whatnot. So far the only malfunction I've experienced was blowing a belt while running at 60 mph sustained chasing rally cars to the next checkpoint when the national rally came through our neck of the woods. That turned out to be the Gates belts I use are just a smidgen too short and so I need to shim the primary clutch to prevent the belt from knocking its own teeth off by bottoming on the chives. Anyway, I've had a riot running around on the thing.

That rally would be a lot of fun. We also enjoy the group rides and taking the machines into town to grab something to eat, we have met a lot of great people riding and enjoying off road machines!

Here in WV we are really lucky as SxS are about as common as a truck -pretty much every house has one and there are a LOT of non-state places to ride. The other great thing is we have the Hatfield and McCoy trail system (A state sponsored trail system with 700+ miles of non width restricted trails. They are currently adding two more trail systems fairly close to the house and that will add several hundred more miles of trails).

In case anyone is interested in the H/M trail system: Home - Hatfield-McCoy Trails

I always run an OEM belt.
When I had my Kawasaki Brute Force, I frequented the kawierider forum. Gates belts had a history of not holding up on those machines. Never had an issue with mine running OEM belts.
I run OEM on my RZR 900s (currently has 6375 miles). Never had a belt issue. Changed my first belt at 2700 mile (just for piece of mind, carry that belt for my spare).
Current OEM belt has over 3600 miles, still looks and works like new. I won't run a Gates belt on my machine.

I agree. I consider them higher quality than Polaris, and don't know of any connection. Not picking on Polaris at all.

They've been in business for a very long time. I first experienced Can Am in Motocross dirt bikes. First motocross bike I ever saw that used the frame to store engine coolant.

They build on road and off road machines. Dealers won't be as plentiful as more popular brands. I've never heard anyone complain about parts availability. Two of my friends have Can Am ATVs. One friend has a Can Am Spyder 3 wheel cycle.

Can-Am

Actually the frame contained the two stroke oil not coolant. I had a 1978 250 Canam Enduro.... the bike was as tough as nails and Bombardier the parent company makes very well respected Snowmachines , ATVs and Sxs.... here in Canada.

Guy in my old shop has a Can Am which is surprising as most around here buy a RZR. He liked it.

I just watched the show Successful Farming on RFD TV. They had a segment where 3 farmers tested a UTV for the show. Kubota, Can-am and Gator. They told what they liked and disliked and then gave the one they tested a 1 through 5 star rating. Kubota and gator were given 5 stars and the Can-am received 4.5 stars. So they all sound like top notch machines.

It's a good show, we also like Ag-phd on the same channel.

If I was going to purchase a Turbo machine, I'd go with the Can-am right now as it has a better suspension. If I was going to purchase a long-travel machine, I think I'd look at that new Kawasaki. Woods machine wise, the RZR 1000S. UTV, the Defender. In my area most people have RZR XP1000s and Can-Am Mavericks and those people have no idea how many trails they are missing out on and stick around in the whoops-infested areas and ditches (my county allows horse-riding in ditches, which in the land of endless vacationers turned into ATV trails in the '80s and '90s, which now have morphed into OHV trails and all those trails are maintained by several non-profit riding clubs).

I bought a Honda pioneer 700 deluxe last year and love it but I also have a Bombardier (Can Am) traxter XT that we bought around 20 years ago that still runs great. Only maintenance is replace the battery (about every 5 years) and change oil and filter. I looked at the Can Am utvs last year but just didn't like how they looked compared to the Honda Pioneer. I have 4 Can Am dealers within a 60-70 minute drive from me so dealer support is great. Closest one is 10 minutes another is 20 minutes the opposite direction.
