Can I buy a trailer for my tractor around $2000

7700 lb.?
Two 3850 lb. axles?
Have heard of 3750 lb. axles, but never..... 3850 lb. axles?

Trailer probably weighs 2800 lbs.?
7700 lbs. - 2800 lbs. = load capacity of 4900 lbs.
Might be a bit too light for OP's needs.
Seems like two 5000 lb. axles would be better for him, tractor/loader, plus bush hog, and heavy box blade.
Some excess capacity is just fine, but a bit less capacity than required, means trading/selling to buy a bigger trailer.

Its on the Title and the Certificate of origin as a 7700 GVWR. The only one I found like that. But they make them. Id never seen one either. Not sure how they achieved it. I'll take a look at the actual GVW on the sticker to get the weight of it empty as I forget right now. Im not sure how much he is going to need but his original request was for something lighter than perhaps he really needs. Bigger is always better of course. My load is about 5000 pounds.

Added on edit; The trailer weights 1900 pounds and says cargo not to exceed 5800.

I think two 3500lbs axles plus 10% tongue weight gives you 7700gvwr

Thanks for all the help guys, If all goes according to plan I'm picking up 20' wooden deck, dovetail, 7000gvw trailer on Monday for $2200, and then heading to Charlotte to get tractor, thanks again

7000 GVW minus actual trailer weight of 2500 lbs.(?) = 4500 lbs. for load.
Will you ever have loaded tires?
If you only carry the bare tractor, without loaded tires, you will be legally OK.
If you add any sort of reasonably heavy implement (tiller?), you will very likely exceed trailer capacity.

Yeah I'm concerned with being very close to the limit, so the 7000gvw does include the weight of the trailer, the mahindra 2538 with loader and nonloaded tires weighs say 4500 then trailer at 2500, I'm maxed, as mentioned with no implements or loading tires eventually or backhoe eventually

The trailer dealer said the trailer is just under 2000lbs,

Not sure but Ive only seen like two of these rated at 7700 on the sticker, title and all paperwork. And marked with a plate saying cargo "not to exceed 5800" as well. Its a true 7700 by manufacturer. Not at all sure how they got there. But they make conventional ones that you typically see on both sides of this as well. I load up to almost 5000 (with an assortment of some of my larger stuff) on it with several attachments and the tractor. It gives me a margin of safety but still would a little bit even if it was a 7000. Its an odd bird. Only found a couple of these. They rare I think. And I got no answers to how they got there. Could be some sort of springs or something. All I know is it pulls good and rides good. And I was thrilled to find it at $2500.

Ill snap y'all some pictures of the markings and stickers in the daylight tomorrow if your curious.

I never seen one like that before 5800 gives you a tare of 1900 most trailers are 7k ,10 k , 12k, ect its a odd duck

It sure is odd. I had one other I found advertised with the same numbers, different brand, but I never actually laid my hands on that one when I found this one and bought it. I was inclined to go to 10K but just didn't want the extra weight of one behind my tow vehicle. But yet I wanted more than just a few hundred pounds in reserve. And or face the option to leave some attachment behind. But I was going to be alright with a 7000 GVWR just not as much margin as I would have liked. I took a chance that this one really is what it says. And it was a good price partly because it was used by the dealer to haul a few tractors to customers. So it was new never titled but he had actually put a few miles on it. It certainly looked new. And so far it functions really well. The brakes are strong on it. Its build date is 3/2017

Anyway...

Here are some shots of the markings. There is a contradiction on there with a reference to 7000 in the tire listing. But the 7700 bares out when you do the math on the weight of the trailer and the rating to not exceed 5800 pounds load. Which is also mirrored on the Certificate of origin and title which only says 7700. But either way I do not know how they arrived at it. Before I bought it I called the manufacturer and the girl answering the phone had no clue. There must be some method of adding a bit by some sort of magic! LOL...

Either way I don't put more on it than 5800 anyway. Not more than 5000 for that matter but I do come close.

Tractor = 3146 (I added 500 to manufacturers spec. for liquid filled tires)
FEL (with bucket) = 915
Bush Hog BH5 = 491
BH 60" Tiller = 375
Land Pride Box Scrap 60" = 346
Fred Cain cultivator w/ 3-5 tines on = 250
Tiger attachments Forks = 200 est
Chains binders, saws, tools and miscellaneous stuff in the job box = 200 est

Thats all the stuff I own right now. I would not be able to haul all that at once just due to sheer area to load it all I don't believe. But for planning purposes I used it all. So finding one that was lighter and might get me over 7000 was certainly a consideration. If such a beast really exists. And the total towing capacity of my tow vehicle is also being approached. Thats 7800 by the way. Even though its fully equipped with tow package, brake controller and coolers and such. I needed the trailer to stay level and not impinge on my suspension. All the 10K trailers I saw weight 300-500 more pounds than this one. Taking away my weight of cargo to be able to tow.

Its an odd trailer but I likely would have bought it at $2500 even if it was a 7000 gvwr. I dont haul the tractor much or very far and its plenty for that. And it was a good price and seems well built.
