It sure is odd. I had one other I found advertised with the same numbers, different brand, but I never actually laid my hands on that one when I found this one and bought it. I was inclined to go to 10K but just didn't want the extra weight of one behind my tow vehicle. But yet I wanted more than just a few hundred pounds in reserve. And or face the option to leave some attachment behind. But I was going to be alright with a 7000 GVWR just not as much margin as I would have liked. I took a chance that this one really is what it says. And it was a good price partly because it was used by the dealer to haul a few tractors to customers. So it was new never titled but he had actually put a few miles on it. It certainly looked new. And so far it functions really well. The brakes are strong on it. Its build date is 3/2017
Anyway...
Here are some shots of the markings. There is a contradiction on there with a reference to 7000 in the tire listing. But the 7700 bares out when you do the math on the weight of the trailer and the rating to not exceed 5800 pounds load. Which is also mirrored on the Certificate of origin and title which only says 7700. But either way I do not know how they arrived at it. Before I bought it I called the manufacturer and the girl answering the phone had no clue. There must be some method of adding a bit by some sort of magic! LOL...
Either way I don't put more on it than 5800 anyway. Not more than 5000 for that matter but I do come close.
Tractor = 3146 (I added 500 to manufacturers spec. for liquid filled tires)
FEL (with bucket) = 915
Bush Hog BH5 = 491
BH 60" Tiller = 375
Land Pride Box Scrap 60" = 346
Fred Cain cultivator w/ 3-5 tines on = 250
Tiger attachments Forks = 200 est
Chains binders, saws, tools and miscellaneous stuff in the job box = 200 est
Thats all the stuff I own right now. I would not be able to haul all that at once just due to sheer area to load it all I don't believe. But for planning purposes I used it all. So finding one that was lighter and might get me over 7000 was certainly a consideration. If such a beast really exists. And the total towing capacity of my tow vehicle is also being approached. Thats 7800 by the way. Even though its fully equipped with tow package, brake controller and coolers and such. I needed the trailer to stay level and not impinge on my suspension. All the 10K trailers I saw weight 300-500 more pounds than this one. Taking away my weight of cargo to be able to tow.
Its an odd trailer but I likely would have bought it at $2500 even if it was a 7000 gvwr. I dont haul the tractor much or very far and its plenty for that. And it was a good price and seems well built.
