Can I Fish Around In My Fuel Tank?

Drain some of the fuel or drive/work the tractor till the tank is nearly empty, then go fishing.

The only fishing I ever did was in my old 4220 Yanmar. I was filling with fuel using the 12VDC Fillrite pump and the aluminum spout on the fuel nozzle fell out of the nozzle and into the tank. I couldn't see it since the tank was almost full, so I just left it in till I ran it down to about 2" of fuel in the tank. I could see the piece of aluminum pipe OK but couldn't reach it with any tool I had. Looking around the shop, I found two pieces of bamboo like is used to support plants or a flower arrangement. Using these like chopsticks, I was able to maneuver the pipe around and stand it up on the side of the tank then insert one of the bamboo sticks into it. I tried to raise it by putting the other one on the outside but it just slipped off and fell back into the tank. Finally got it vertical again and one bamboo inside, then put the other one inside also and it wedged perfectly to allow pulling it out of the tank. I fixed that nozzle then with a self tapping metal screw thru the valve housing and into the pipe so it never has a chance to come out again.

An update to my fuel tank fishing project: I put the other half of the plastic funnel in a pan and filled it with diesel and it didn't float, so now I know to go fishing in the bottom of the tank. The fishing expedition has been put on hold for lack of proper fishing gear. It seems my dear wife has declared war on metal clothes hangers and replaced them all with plastic ones. I wouldn't have believed that I couldn't find a metal hanger in the whole house. I have an electrician's fish tape, but that doesn't give good control for "trawling". When I find someone that will trade a metal hanger for a plastic one I'll resume my quest.

As I reported in my reply, look around your house for some plant stakes, those little pieces of bamboo about 3/8" in diameter or if you have some on your property, just cut you a couple of small pieces. A small wooden dowel rod would work also and either of them is stiffer than a coat hanger wire

Sugar added to a gas tank is supposed to lock up a gasoline engine. The man found a 'friend'.

Not to mention the havoc that the caramel and peanuts could cause.
