It's crazy that someone would charge over $100 or $150 dollars for a 10 minute welding job. Unbelievable.

ON-SITE being the key, here that would mean 1-2 hour round trip plus the 15 minutes to weld. Changes the numbers quite a bit.

Exactly. If you take it off, clean it up and bring it to a shop, it should not be close to $400. The onsite aspect is what is driving that price.
