Nomad, since you're buying all your implements first, and then your tractor, guess if you buy the larger one, you'll have to get a larger tractor huh? I agree that using the smaller implements gives me more time on the tractor, and that's a plus, but if I'm doing work for someone else, they won't be happy having to pay for more hours. I don't work by the job, but by the hour. John

If you take the size of your compact tractor as a given size, whatever that is, then in many cases a larger implement can allow you to complete a give task in a shorter time, but not always. Here's what I mean.

A 30 HP machine can certainly mow a field in less time with a 6' mower than a 4' mower yet the same machine might be able to till a garden in less time with a 4' tiller than a 6' tiller because the tractor can't go nearly as deep or fast with the 6' tiller and might need multiple passes to accomplish the same work.

The bottom line is that to complete a given task in the least amount of time you need to properly match the implement to the tractor you have.

Have seen (if not many) some said the same and now they are saying "I could stop doing this if someone would drop a couple of billion dollars in my lap.".. Human memory is so weak that their brain hdd are unable to save some words like "greed", etc. Maybe, they just don't like.

Returning the topic; Still thinking about which rock rake I will be saving. Today, I played a small game assuming I bought the bigger rake yesterday. I picked some rocks today and well, I saved some time. Should I keep it the saved time in the bank account? Or, do I need to find a way to keep that saved time in a safe place? Should I buy also an alarm against the thieve? Anyway - maybe, the best is to buy the smaller rake. Will decide on Monday.

Ps: KiotiJohn, are you doing the works for someone elses by the hour? Is it preferred by you because "by the hour" is more profitable for you or is it the customer's preference?

Sounds to me like you don't have a good handle on the english language. Words in english can have many meanings.

- A relief pitcher SAVES a game
- The firefighter SAVED a life
- The goaltender made 25 SAVES last night
- I SAVE $100 a week
- Etc.

If a typical task takes you an hour and using some piece of equipment allows you to complete that same task in 20 minutes -- you have SAVED 40 minutes that you can do something else. What you do during that 40 minutes is up to you -- and if you want to visit a bank, go right ahead.

Actually, I have no idea why I am explaining this -- I believe you in fact understand these terms but just are playing word games on purpose.

Of course, I understand. I maybe seen I am playing word games. My focus/point in this thread was actually "do we really need bigger implements or not?" - This is the question of this topic. Most of people will advice "go for the bigger if you want to save the time" (like the local dealer here adviced.) Other than this, why to buy a bigger implement? I don't see any other good reason other than "saving the time". If you hear from everybody "save time" advice, then you go crazy and try to say somethings opposite like "time can not be saved." Show me another reason for buying a larger implement and will stop saying "time can't be saved." What? Human numbers involved in a work too can be reduced/saved?

It has to be a balance of time vs. size vs. price. I have a 15' flexwing mower that takes me about 6 hours to cut 30 acres. Now, if I used a 21" pushmower, by the time I finished, I'd have to start again because of the amount of time it would take. This would seem like a waste of time to use such a small mower.

If you need to move 1 ton rocks, then I think you would need a much larger piece of equipment. So the idea that bigger is just to save time is not the issue, it's what piece of equipment can at least do the job I need done.

I feel the idea is to match the tasks that you need to perform with a reasonable amount of time that should be expended on such tasks, and size the equipment/attachment accordingly that can also fit into your budget.
