Which is better? to buy the LARGER impliment yourself (and save time), or have the smaller impliment bought for you and given to you as a gift? (therby spending more time on the project)

If you get the larger rake, you will have more time to do things, such as count your money, hug your wife, feed your dog, or hang out HERE !!

If you get the SMALLER rake (but it's FREE), you will have less time to do any/all the above.

(now accepting donations on Nomad's behalf for purchase of small impliments, to be given to him free of charge)

Richard, let me guess you have bought the large implements /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif to use them behind a CUT /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
So, as a CUT owner with smaller attachments, are you missing to count your money, hugging your wife, feeding your dog, etc? I am not counting hanging out HERE because I think you are saving your time remained from small implement works to hang out here /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well, now, isn't it strange/contradiction that you all CUT owners are advicing to buy large implements although none of you have large implement? For such things, folks here say "listen to the advices of teachers, but never follow them."

I am new to this particular discussion area, but let me take a stab at it. I am a commercial landscape contractor and often struggle with the same question that you have. Is it better to buy the bigger implement that MAY be able to finish the job in a more timely manner than the small one? I say MAY because bigger is not always better. The larger the machine, the less maneuverable it is and the more manual labor generated. You have to evaluate the site where it will be used and decide whether or not the implement will be able to adequately operate on the site, as well as getting it into the site. (e.g. Gates, between buildings, utilities)

Really, for me, sometimes the smallest implement can be in, out, and done before the biggest one can even get half way. Also, if you are worried about the hourly charge, rate it based on the attachment. If the smaller one takes 2 hours instead of the larger ones one hour, just charge twice what you would charge for the smaller one.

( Ps: KiotiJohn, are you doing the works for someone elses by the hour? Is it preferred by you because "by the hour" is more profitable for you or is it the customer's preference? )
I do it by the hour because I didn't always guess correctly about how long it would take me to do a job. So now, it's by the hour with an estimate of how long it will take me to do the job. Most people don't have a problem with it so far. John

While we are at the construction tools... I watched on a TV news today that a man in a small (?) town in Colorado destroyed some buildings in the town with his built-home bulldozer because he was angry with the mayor(?) or someones. The news said he enforced/covered an old bulldozer with some strong steel sheets so that the bulldozer became a bulletproof. Missed the rest of the news because of a phone call. I wonder how he constructed such a bulldozer with bulletproof body.

Nomad,
Today, as I was speeding /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif along the highways of America, I thought about your post.....

I decided that I was making time and had no where to save it.....

In fact, I kinda felt like Superman.

Have a good one!,
Neil.

I have a great one! 1958 Massey Harris. It runs like a royal turtle so that when you drive it you may feel the wind of the time passing you.
