Canned Gasoline?

I go through about 90 gallons of gas per year. At $10/gallon, that would be $900 VS, say $250 on regular gas(even less this year). I'll never have $650 worth of fuel related problems in a year. Ever, never, ever. It would be fiscally irresponsible of me to spend that kind of money on something with so little return. I just can't understand why anyone would do that? Its crazy. :confused2:

If you have been stricken by ethanol fuel issues and it ruins a $800 Saw or a $2500 Outboard you become a believer.

On lost day of revenue for a commercial guy is way more than the cost of decent fuel.

How many commercial guys use $20 gallon fuel? Those same commercial guys go through enough fuel that getting stale isn't a big deal. I was hauling off firewood for a tree company. I watched the guy walk over and fill up his saw out of a 5 gallon can.

A repair, maybe. The entire cost of the piece of equipment? No.

This "Thread" has gone "viral". I have a one acre lot "homeowner use" of power equipment. When I used Ethanol blended fuel with oil mix, I had problems, period. My equipment is in "down time" for 4 to 5 months each year, so there is the root of the problem, fuel with water in it and equipment maintenance for carbs. I use maybe? two gallons each year so am I going to keep using Ethanol fuel with oil mix? NO NO NO. 5 Years of "Canned Gasoline" and not one fuel issue. It is not worth the headaches or added maintenance expense. $60.00 or so yearly in Trufuel versus the problems???? All I know is after 5 months downtime with Trufuel, I can pull the start rope and the equipment roars to life. On the other hand, if I ran many gallons of fuel with little down time, Trufuel would not offset the cost of maintenance so Ethanol plus oil would be what I would use. This thread is read by people with varying levels of fuel use. Some respond with never any problems with Ethanol; I am happy for you but it caused me an awful lot of headaches and expense. Lets don't lead the small user in the wrong direction. Limited use of power equipment will pay dividends to the small user if they use "Canned gasoline". Frequent use (throughout the year) of power equipment will not offset the cost of "Canned Gasoline". Each user must determine their own use and truly "Canned Gasoline" will be the best route for some users and the "Ethanol" will be better for others. This is not a question of the "one" option that will work best for everybody..

Exactly!

Additive technology has improved over the years, to the current JASO-FD standard. A FULL
synthetic oil, designed for 2-strokes, with do even better, WRT wear.

Decades ago, a Stihl owner's manual said to mix at 16:1 using motor oil, and 40:1 if you buy
the synthetic pre-mix 40:1 fuel from Stihl. Stihl may have been the first to sell these synthetic
pre-mix fuels. Currently, they sell a 50:1 synthetic fuel, and enhance the warranty if you use
it.

If you use excessive oil in your fuel, you will increase soot build-up in the exhaust port, which
eventually scratches the piston and rings. I have torn down many saws, and I have seen
extreme amounts of soot in the exhaust ports, esp on old and pro saws.

It seems that 2-stroke motocross folks have been using full-synth oils for well over 40y, and they
get around the high ratios by cleaning the exhaust ports every few dozen hours.

i run higher ratios and do not have heavy buildup on my exhaust port. Most of what you talk about it the older two stroke and conventional oil two strokes not the good synthetics. Good synthetic oil used even at ratios of 32:1 or 40:1 in place of 50:1 will actually start to remove and reduce some of those deposits. not all but some.

Modern Fuel systems have taken into account modern fuel.

All of my problems with E fuel are with old equipment... some of it very old.

My blower has set since about November with E0 regular mixed gas. I needed it today and it fired right up. My weed whacker has sat longer than that. I started it just to see if it would and it fired right up. What would the canned fuel have helped?

There are lots of us who can't get E0.

It has to do with vented to open air and the ethanol absorbs water and breaks down much faster than gasoline.

Not as much of a problem with melted hoses and plastics these days.
