Re: Can\'t Believe the Difference!

I'd like to try it.
I was wondering how much you save when you buy preferred? Is there a dollar amount per quart/gallon savings I can relate to?...

By the way, I went up to the property for the first time since a week before Christmas. It had rained something terrible and was bitter cold for a change...CA cold that is...about 32°. Looked like hurricane Barbara (that's my mother-in-law) went through my campsite!
I wanted to try out the tractor to see if the new synthetics I put in made a difference in starting, or if it would crank up slowly. Keep in mind that I had not started it for over two weeks. I had also installed those cheapo solar tricle chargers and I wanted to see if the battery would be at full charge.
I opened the fuel line and turned the key.
The tractor jumped to life in about 2 seconds and started idling smoothly at 800 rpm and warmed up, ready to work.

I'm wondering if I would get any measurable advantages using Amsoil and if the preferred member discount would give me enough savings to justify using it? Tractor runs just fine on the Mobil1 and Supertech tranny oils....Any thoughts on this?

Rat, I believe that planet was ruled by a very skinny female named OLIVE OIL. She hated a dyno & synthetic oils (go figure)

Re: Can\'t Believe the Difference!

3RRL: Well there's the initial cost of becoming preferred which I think was $25/yr when I first signed up. So you would have to buy enough synth oil & grease to justify the initial outlay of the membership. Yes there's a difference per quart savings depending on which type of synth oil you purchase. They have an entire catalog on synth oils & greases and a lot of info can be found by going to their website. I only purchase once or twice per year but some of the stuff I buy from them is organic fertilizer, so I get to combine my order & save on freight. They have major distribution centers and since I'm in NY, all of my stuff comes from the PA dist center.

I can't give you a bottom line savings per qt. but from what I'm reading about the levels of oil these tractors take, I think it would be worth trying it for a year and see how you like the synthetics.

Good luck!
Jon

Re: Can\'t Believe the Difference!

OK thanks for the replies, I'll look into it a bit more.
Taking into consideration all my other cars, motorcycles, generators, compressors and machinery, I guess buying for all would make it worthwhile. Even my golf carts could use some oil. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
What about chainsaws? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Can\'t Believe the Difference!

The fully synthetic polyester chainsaws oils are absolutely first class!

No smoke and actually smell a little like the wonderful old castor oil base I used to use in my racing Bultaco motocross bikes and go-karts back in the '60's. If you switch to a full syn 2 stroke oil, you'll definetly have to rejet the carb as it will idle much faster on the idle jet and hit much higher rpms when it comes on the main jet.

Re: Can\'t Believe the Difference!

Ditto, I have been using the Amsoil full syn 2-stroke for the saws. Just bought a case of 1qt. bottles of the Saber mix. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
