Re: Can\'t get bucket loader to reattach on 2210

I am thinking that somebody ought to write an article on this forum entitled, "Things They don't tell women when we buy our first REAL tractor"!!! The table of contents would include: 1. How to read the manual, or, malespeak made simple. 2. what to do if your feet don't reach the pedals. 3. The #$%&# bolt won't budge, or, a mechanic on steroids with an air gun tightened up the fittings.
4. Please don't get offended when the salesman tells you a tractor color matches your eyes. 5. Sports bras are mandatory when driving a tractor. 6. Hydraulic hoses, and how to disconnect them, or, now I know why HE curses all the time.

Re: Can\'t get bucket loader to reattach on 2210

You bet. I am going by the dealership this afternoon. They said they would be glad to come back out to the house and work with me till I got the hang of it. I think the earlier post was right in identifying my problem...i.e, not setting the FEL off on a hard level surface. You can bet I will never repeat that mistake.

I find on my 4310 that to get to float if you push forward, then a little to the right and foward gets it to the float detent easily.

Re: Can\'t get bucket loader to reattach on 2210

Well, problem(s) solved, gentlemen! I managed to drag the partially attached FEL into my concrete garage (since it was attached with the "masts", it was movable, though I could not life it). It did minimal damage to my gravel driveway. As soon as I got the tractor and FEL into the garage bay, I banged on the FEL bar supports from underneath with a heavy rubber mallet. (after I put grease on the fittings). The bar popped right into place! First lesson learned.......the gravel driveway is NOT sufficiently hard surfaced. for detaching and re-attaching the FEL. (part B of the first lesson is always have a good mallet handy)
Problem Two: I worked and worked with the joy stick and finally found the sweet spot for the "float" poisition. Voila!
This tractor is wonderful.
Thanks for everyone's good advice.

Re: Can\'t get bucket loader to reattach on 2210

Buckie,
Glad you finally got your loader back on!
If you have time, you might want to work that a few more times, in the garage. Unlatch the quick pull pins, and operate the loader up and down to work that front latching mechanism to loosen things up. If you find that it doesn't start to work easier, have the dealer readjust that loader so it does. It should work without any effort or pry bars or hammers. Also, make sure you have good down pressure while attempting to latch the loader. I don't think the wheels need to be off the ground, but definately have most of the weight on the loader when attempting to pull those pins...
Good luck and have fun with your toy! er, um, tractor...

Re: Can\'t get bucket loader to reattach on 2210

My plan is to practice detaching and re-attaching the FEL this weekend, in the garage, for sure. The dealer said the fittings are really tight when new, and I need to just do this, over and over, to (as you said) get things loosened up a bit. Just trying to figure out how to uncouple the hoses took me awhile. I relieved the hydraulic pressure but just did not know how to actually get the male/female hoses uncoupled. The manual had nothing detailed on this. Finally figured out that the ring on the female end pulls back, spring-like, and then I can uncouple hose from the FEL. (same as my air compressor hose fittings...which I should have known)
The spring pins come out OK if I relieve the front wheel pressure a bit.
I will definitely work with the loader until I am comfortable with it.
The loader has one of those rod gizmos sticking up to serve as a guide for when the bucket is level. I can't get a clear view of the bucket when it is fully down, so I need some kind of leveling device. Any thoughts on an alternative for telling me when I have the bucket level? The rod doesn't appear very reliable.
sorry for all the questions. Am having to learn a lot in a short time!

Re: Can\'t get bucket loader to reattach on 2210

I'd make sure to keep the area around the hydraulic connections clean. You get a little build up around the quick disconnects and they can be a challenge to get on and off. If they are clean it is a snap.

Re: Can\'t get bucket loader to reattach on 2210

I had exactly the same problems of FEl reattachment and hydraulic hoses.
The reason my FEl wasnt reattatching was because the bolts on the arms had worked loose and that meant the gear was not lineing up correctly. i had to puch the arms back so that they were in their original positions.

The dealer told me to wiggle the stick around to release the pressure in the hydraulics. that worked fine.
I find it is better to get answers on TBN rather than go to the dealer.
a) Its faster
b) Its more polite.
c) Every body has had the same question at some point and you will get informative and intelligent answers.

I agree to this somewhat, but I'm feeling like the dealership dropped the ball here. Even the most experienced customer needs a proper delivery with instructions, if not at least safety instruction. If they know it all already, then they can ask to skip some instruction.
I can't tell you how many people I come across with machines that they had no idea how things worked, like mowing in reverse on the Deere riding lawn equipment, or using "float" .. as these discussions indicate. I also can admit, that sometimes there just isn't enough time to teach every little detail of a machine, especially as they get larger and have more and more features.
Then again, experience can be the best teacher, and doing something is the best way to really learn how to do it. (hopefully not when safety is concerned though)

Re: Can\'t get bucket loader to reattach on 2210

Excellent points, fellas. I should have taken more time to insist that the delivery/dealer rep. teach me thoroughly when he came to deliver the tractor. As it was, I was trying to learn a great deal of information, ask questions, and listen.....all at the same time. I will say that before I got on the tractor I read every word in the manuals, even though all I wanted to do was jump on the new "toy". The best training would have been hands-on with supervision, especially in regard to the safety issues. Had I not read the manual VERY closely, I would not have known how dangerous it is to disconnect the hoses with the hydraulic pressure unrelieved.
The advice I have gotten on this web site (for the FEL and float problems) has been excellent and very helpful.

I think the dealers sometimes assume that people know more, or, are really understanding instructions when, in fact, the information is not really understood at all. Too, there may be a few of us who don't really like to admit that we don't know a FEL from a fudgsickle. (that would be me, for sure......LOLOL. Thanks goodness for nice people who respond to us tractor dwebs on TBN.
