Carbide saw blade differences?

I didn't see a tool section on TBN so I hope to get the answer here...
What's the differences between C2, C3 and C6 carbide saw blades? I think it's something to do with hardness but which one is harder? Is harder the better? Any pro's and con's? Thanks for you help.

Hi Stumpfield,
I think you answered your own question. I believe its the hardness of the carbide teeth. Try a search in Google. C6 being the toughest.

I might be wrong, but if you're looking at a circular saw blade that is C6, walk away. That is entirely too hard. I don't think you want anything harder than an C4 for a saw blade. If it is too hard, it will be brittle, which translates into shatter. If you're looking for a saw blade for a table saw, get the Forrest. Expensive, but worth every penny.

Oops, I wish I read this earlier. So, harder is not necessary better

Just bought a whole bunch of C6 carbide circular saw blades at a closed out sale. I thought I got myself a bargain but I guess not anymore.

Is it dangerous to use C6 carbibe blade to cut wood with a circular saw? Does it shatter easily? If I can't cut wood, what can it use for?

I think youll be fine.

If you dont use them for wood you can also cut non ferris metals, plastics, all kinds of stuff.

It's not dangerous, just don't be surprised to see a broken tooth every now and then. Hand saw? Those kind of blades are fine. Get a good quality blade for your table saw, though.
