Around here people haul 10 tons on a single rear axle truck and 20 or more on the tri axel dump trucks.

"pellets" ???
I thought the OP wants to get COAL !
Where did the "pellets" idea come from?
OK, bags of coal. What's the difference in the context of the question? Either way it sounds like quite a mess.

Although upon reviewing his one post it isn't clear if he's buying in bags or loose; so we are free to interpret it any way that we want.

One can legally haul about 24 tons on a 5 axle semi providing its long enough. We hauled 32 tons on 8 axles at 70'. Three axles is good for 52,000 gvw and that's a long truck. A three axle dump truck will ysre in at 20-24k. Y'all must have titanium frame trucks in your neighborhood.

We have guys who are legal (with an overweight permit) for 70-80,000# with a 4 axle truck (1 Steer, 1 Lift and 2 Drive axles). IIRC, most of them start with an old cement mixer or RR crane truck that has a 20k front axle with super singles on it.
Not saying that its a good idea, but they are legal on paper.

Legal on paper maybe, but not on a federal highway. The max gvw for 4 axles is 80,000 but it has to be 57' from center of the front axle to the center of the rear and all of the axles have to be dualed or super-single. The gvw placard states what the truck is licensed for with a trailer, not what it can hsul solo. The gvw on the trucks I drove was 105,500 with a 4 axle trailer but solo it was legal for 56,000 fue to length overal and axle configuration. A tandom axle set is legal for 34,000, my steer axle was good fo 18,000 and my drop was good for 9000. My trailer axles (four of them) wete eavh good for 20,000 but because they were close together the legal gvw of the trailer was. 50,000. Our 5 axle dump trucks were legal to 62,000. Our mixers with 5 axles were good to 72,000 but the booster axle was eight feet behind the drivers increasing the overall length of the truck. All of these configurations are in compliance with federal laws.

Dont know why we are arguing now about dump trucks.

Dont know much about them.....But when I call up the trucking place to get some gravel hauled.....his "big" trucks have 3 drop axles.....those he brings me ~25t loads on.

His smaller truck only has 1 drop axle.....21tons at a time on that.

Trucks with no drop (3-axle).....18t.

The notion that a fullsized 3-axle dump truck running around at max load with 10t.....laughable.

Legal for in-state work in rural Western NY. No idea on anything besides that, some of the other drivers were giving the guy a hard time about what he was in for if he got pulled over (he had it setup as a flatbed and was hauling as much fruit as you would normally see on a semi trailer) and he said something about it being grandfathered in and having to get a yearly overweight permit to carry that much.

What's laughable is that the OP still only has 1 post to their name and probably hasn't and won't read any of this.

Yes, but it's been raining a lot.
And he was only on for 1 day.
We'll make it to 100 or better!

Ya, at this rate I assume he checked back. Found most answers weren't supporting what he was already doing & going to continue doing. So never responded & is likely to never return.
