Case 530Ck
I currently have a 60's model I'm guessing Case 530CK loader/backhoe with a single cylinder steering system. It's very hard to turn either way when under a load or not but if it I let the loader down to lift the front end up it will turn easily with no problem. Wanting to know what may be causing this issue. I wondering if the hydraulics may be bypassing inside the cylinder causing it hard to turn. If anyone has any insite on this problem please help me out. I've attached some photos too. Thanks

Could be the O-rings/seals are out of the cylinder. I guess you could turn it full right, or left, then put the weight on it, then remove the return side hose, and try and turn it. If it sprays out, then it's getting past the gland seal. If it just runs/squirts out, purging just what is in that end of the cylinder, you have other problems. A new seal kit from Case Construction dealer runs $44.85. Official Case Construction Equipment Online Parts Store and Parts Look Up. Parts for Case Equipment and Construction Equipment. I had an old 310B that had a similar cylinder that leaked around the piston rod, like showing in your picture. Checked Case, and a new cylinder was around $1300.00, about 7-8 years ago. Asking price on ebay was no less than $800.00 for one that looked like what I had. Salvage yard prices were in between those 2 prices. Opted for the seal kit, and put it in. Steering was better, and was much easier when moving. Not like on my now, 480C, where you can turn the wheel with 1 finger, even loaded.

Thanks DJ54, I've actually searched there website over for that cylinder and couldn't find. I guess I needed another eye to find it. I haven't seen any leaks coming out around shaft I was wondering if it might be by passing inside the cylinder itself. I will need to try what you said then may have to go to the pump. Thanks again for the help.
