The last time I pulled the transmission on my dozer, I chained a snatch block onto the the ROPS, then used the winch on my truck to raise and lower the tranny. I used the winch's wired remote and guided it into place. This worked suprisingly well. Your right, working on heavy equipment makes you think! Good job, thanks for sharing.

Eddie I put a torque converter in an old loader onece i didntr have a boom truck so i took an ib roller and a chain hoist and a section of Ibeam and wleded itto the top of the rops. Id steer the wheel over to the left or right to pick up the torque or other part then steer it over the back half where the bellhousing was then use the Ibeam roller to feed in or out to the fly wheel. They came make you use some colorful language to.

I've just about got it back together. Too many distractions, bad weather and it's a huge pain in the backside, have all led to my delays.

Todays excuse was having to get the right sized o-rings for the really big hoses. Then I went Christmas shopping and when I got home, I just new it would be a good idea to grab my rifle and go for a walk to see whats out and about.

Everything is in it now and connnected. I primed the pump and motor with hydraulic oil and I'm ready to start her up.

Getting all those hoses back together was more of a nightmare than I had anticipated.

One of the things that isn't in any manuals, but requied to do during startup is to lift the dozer off the ground so the tracks don't have any resistance during start up and break in.

The mechanics at Case learned this the hard way on the first one they replaced.

I didn't want the engine to start up right away in order to purge the lines of as much air as I could. Then when I thought I was ready, it wouldn't start.

My dad was in town helping me when I took out the pump and motor, so I called and asked if he had any ideas. It took him a day to think about it, when he remembered turning off the fuel petcocks.

Of course the batteries were drained and it took the night to charge them. This morning she fired right up. I ran her with the tracks off the ground for awhile and everything seems to be working.

I have one problem. The preasure warning light is on for that pump. It's what told me I had the original problem with the pump.

Could air in the line cause the sensor to read low preasure?

Once I got her off the blocks, I was able to see how heavy she really is. The picture is of the two 4X6 blocks that I had under the front part of her.

It rained over an inch yesterday, and today the temps are in the 20's, so I just parked her and will wait for things to dry out a little.

It's just so nice to have her in her parking place again!!!

Latest update.

I got about an hour into using it and all of a sudden I had a massive hydraulic oil leak. I filled the tank and couldn't find the leak. It had to be moving for the leak to happen. I got a friend to come over. He climbed into the small area that the pump and motor sit and I drove really slow forwards.

From the oil spray and wet hoses, I was sure it was a fitting on the pump. Nope. It was the main return line off the bottom of the motor.

I pulled it off and saw that the O-Ring had been crimped when I installed it. I replaced it and everything is dry and no more leaks.

I still have the warning light on for low preasure on the left track. Everything is working perfectly and it's running really strong. I worked it about 8 hours yesterday without anything coming up.

I'm out of ideas of why that warning light is on. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Eddie

In your original post you said "My LH Drive Idiot light is on, but its always been on without any trouble."

Would it be possible (and not too diffucult) to swap the RH drive idiot light unit with the LH unit? At least that would tell you if the problem is in the light unit.

You also mentioned some paper and shavings in the hydraulic system. Could some of that have gotten into the pressure sensor or line to the pressure sensor that runs the light and be keeping it from reading the pressure?

Just some thoughts from somone who has never worked on anything that big!

One of these days I am going to run up your way and see just what in the heck you are up to. But I will check and make sure all machines are in working order before I get there, don't want to get caught working on anything that big and heavy!
