the judge ruled in castrol's favor stating that as it pertains to motor oil, "synthetic is a marketing term". several oil mfgs followed suite immediately and changed formulas. not all is what it appears. lawyers writting advertisement for fun and profit....................

I know, the reason Castrol changed their composition of their Syntec from Group IV PAO to Group III isomerized hydrocracked was to INCREASE PROFITS by substituting a cheaper inferior basestock for a more expensive superior one. However, SAE, ASTM, and API did not change their chemcial defintions of PAO Group IV for "advertising" purposes, they are all still the same chemistry..... LOL

Like Sully2 said, every corporation everywhere in the world does it with a little help from their lawyers.... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

if memory serves me (good luck huh?) only 4 companies start with pao's. all the rest are hydrocracked base stock. lawyers writting advertising, like wallyworld's, always the low price. compared to what?. it has nothing to do with what the average consumer thinks it means. masters of deception............. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

"I used it in my BMW 2002 two liter dual Weber 45 DCOE balanced and blueprinted race engine, unfortunatley the cam bearings only lasted one season"

Wow.. looks like you've been duped.. I've never changed the oil in my push lawnmower in 6 years and it still starts on the first pull. I race it around the house every summer! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Your right, I was duped by Castrol, but that was a long time ago, prior to many years of graduate organic chemistry, so now I won't be duped by Castrol again! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Those push mowers do have some serious biochemical requirements however, be sure to monitor heart rate, blood pressure, calorie intake, cholesterol levels, sodium & potassium levels, and beer ingestion prior to use! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Why would you want to know though, since you've admitted that you'd never use any synthetics anyhow?

Oh I suppose you could say that since I have only Used Syntek /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I use it in a few of my small aircooled engines.

I have just never used Amsoil, cause I do not like they way some of their sales reps act. And it is too expensive for any added small benefit over the psuedo synthetics /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Pup this thread was about Castrol being on sale till you brought amsoil and synthetics into it.

Ken it had to be the oil in that engine, it could not have been poor machine work or assembly or anything like that could it ?

I was just poking a little fun at Skypup's expense.. but yes.. I have never seen a engine failure due to the brand of oil someone is using.

If there was a magical oil that gave sizeable advantages.. wouldn't all professional racecar teams use it?

Yeah, the racers use synthetic because it gives them more hp.

Yeah, race cars all use synthetics because they don't like to be losers.
