Catepillar D-9 Dozer in Action

I used to do some consulting work for Cat. I saw a factory in Peoria, IL where I believe D9's were produced. Whatever model it was, they had them lined up on rail cars awaiting shipment outside the factory. It was impressive!

They also make a giant dump truck, 707 maybe? It is huge, holds something like 110 tons. I remember being in awe of the specs when I read them, but I never got to see one in person.

The mines here in the Powder River Basin have gobs of big machines. Each mine has a fleet of D-10s and 11s, the 9s are about all gone now. At least a couple of 24H motor graders that are replacing the 16Gs. The Cat trucks are about all 793 240 ton models but they do make a 797 that is 400 ton. Cat has about 50% of the truck market. Shovels, draglines, hydraulic excavators, front end loaders, you name it, its probably here. I work (machinist) in a welding/machine/electric motor repair/ hydraulic repair shop and have worked on about all of them at one time or another. Visit Cat's website and you can see for you're self.

I have a power point slide show of a D8 dozer that was scooped up by a bucket wheel excavator in the tar sands of Fort McMurray but don't know how to get it on here.
