As you may already know Caterpillar recently sold manufacturing and distribution rights to its Challenger line of rubber track tractors to AGCO. Part of the arrangement is that AGCO will be able to market its own new line of Challenger tractors through Caterpillar dealers. This includes a full line of wheeled tractors down to 24 horsepower and a full line of implements.

Check out this link:

It is my understanding that the Challengers will be availible this fall and have more features than the regular AGCO line.

Interesting....../w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif Just they had more pics of the 200 series...

Of course, everyone knows the Challenger Line are Iseki's, painted yellow instead of AGCO Orange or Iseki Blue... If you look at the picture of the gal on the tractor with the trees, it is the exact picture in their Brochure of the AGCO ST45... yellow instead of orange, just a retouched picture... Great tractors.. I have an ISEKI TA 210 which is just like the AGCO ST 40 or Massey 1240.... Very Solid... Would be neat to have a Caterpiller like color....

What Massey models does Iseki make?

marrt,
I don‘t know how the others match up, but I do know these.
Iseki - Massey
TK 527 - 1240
TK 532 - 1250
TK 538 - 1260
I have a MF 1250-4 and have put just under 1000 hours on it in about 2.4 years.
They are a well made tractor.

They (Cat) make a combine too now.

   / Caterpillar Compact Tractor!!! #8
Yea, They are made by Claas in Europe. Claas recently bought out of the Cat/Claas joint venture. The combines will still be sold by Cat but since Agco allis bought the Challenger line from Cat, Claas will no longer sell "Claas Challengers" in Europe. It is unknown how Claas will fit into the new Agco/Cat arangment as Agco has their own line of Harvesters.

Caterpillar owns Mitsubishi (or the other way around). My Cub Cadet is a Mitsubishi. Isn't that like having a Caterpillar tractor? (it's industrial yellow).

Cat has a joint venture with Mitsu. Back in the sixties, it was the way around Japenese import taxes and thusly, into the Japan market. These days, Several Cat products are produced in Japan and sold here. The E series and 300 series excavators, the D3,4,5 B,C and G (late model), and some of the small wheel loaders. Mitsu engines also show up in some of the compact stuff, the rest being perkins usually. FYI, Cat owns Perkins now.

Thanks for the info. Didn't they used to put Perkins in Massey Fergusons?

Yes, Agco uses some as well as I remember. Perkin's show up nearly everywhere at one time or another.

Agco is planning on replacing the Lexion with a yellow Gleaner. They had one all decked out in Challenger colors and decals at the unveiling. I do know the Claas Lexion is one of the best combines on the market with a pricetag to match. I know a guy who was harvesting wheat in a 485 with a 30' header and traveling 8mph. That would be a fun experience.

Hi, And to think those Claas combines are old MF's!! When they were going through financial problems courtesey of a certain idiot, they started selling things off, such as the combine line. I believe White bought it, then they sold it to Claas!!

See you

Claas combines have always been made by Claas. Massey bought Claas combines and relabled them MF. White Farm Equipment had there own combine factory in Canada, I think it started as Cockshutt, then Oliver then White, it was taken over later by Massey Ferguson. Woodbeef can probably be a little more clear on this.

Last year when I was shopping for a compact I had prices on a Massey 1433, the comparable AGCO and then the CAT. The Massey was just under $17K, the AGCO was $14,800 and the CAT was priced to me at $21,000. They all had the same engine, transmission, loader, and R4 tires. The Massey and AGCO dealers were in Athens Ala and the CAT was over in GA. When the guy told me the price I told him about the other prices I had and he told me that this tractor was a CAT and it was better. But they are all Iseki! I told him. He acted like he didn't know what I was talking about. He may not have!

Chuck has it correct, both MF and Ford have badge engineered Claas combines over the years. The Massey rotary is the old White one. The new Claas of Omaha combines are still being sold as Cat combines.

   / Caterpillar Compact Tractor!!! #19
Actually, White Farm did engineer that rotary combine, but MF had one in R&D that looked about the same, White filed a lawsuit against MF for patent infringments, when White ran into to financial trouble, MF took over the White combine factory, combine the two designs, and what they came up with is the forerunner of the MF combine there building today. Is'nt Caterpillar changing from Claas to AGCO something?
On the Cat Compacts, I think the Cat dealers buy those directly from AGCO with the Challenger name.

Hey guys,I just noticed that the challanger 400b series(60-90hp) tractors look identical to my my discontinued 4345.So agco adds the 5400's, paints the 4300's yellow and adds a few grand per tractor. Not bad. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
