Had CB in truck in late 70's. And now 35 years later the radio is in garage and wife sitting on couch.
I drive from about Washington DC to Tupelo, Mississippi and back about 4 times a year. About half the trips there is a major "shut the interstate down" accident somewhere along the way. Every time we jump on the CB and can usually get great instructions by listening to truckers on how to get around. Well worth the money. Not us. We run FRS radios for short range and FM business band for long range in the equipment. Don't want to hear 'potty mouth' CB crap anyway. Total waste of money (CB radio).
one reason I asked is, I cannot hear my cell phone ring...I do carry it when I'm operating in the field. I was wondering if a CB might be a better option.
Forgot to say that I meet my wife on CB radio.
I need to get some radios setup for around the property. Will probably use Baofeng BF-888s radios set to use MURS frequencies (less competition and usage/power restrictions than the FRS or GRMS bands).
We use them at work (programmed to our frequencies) as "disposable" radios for contractors (we would rather replace a $15 Baofeng than a $400 Motorola Radius CP200 when it falls off of the roof, ladder, manlift, catwalk, etc, etc, etc).
