Spreader CCM Fertilizer Spreaders

The gearbox we have on ours is not a stamped covering type over the drive gears. Ours are enclosed in cast aluminum housings. Pictured below is another brand we sell with the metal hopper. They are from the Daros factory in Italy.--Ken Sweet

Agree, Vicon is the best for this style spreader. Around here all you will find in the vineyards are Vicon and they get a lot of use every year. All depends how much someone plans to use one and if they can justify the Vicon's price over these cheaper alternatives

I have a cheap alternative like pictured above and regret it. Like Junkman, I cleaned it and oiled it and it still rusted up on me. I use it 3-4 times a year and each spring I fight with it to free it up so I can use it. One of these days it is going to be replaced by a Vicon as soon as I get mad enough at it.

is the Vicon a stainless steel hopper? My gripe isn't with the gear mechanism, but with the steel in the hopper bottom and the steel in the open/close mechanism that rusts so badly that it won't open or close any more. I can continue to use it, but I just can't control the amount of material that comes out and it is pouring out the bottom as I fill from the top. That in itself renders it useless.

Vicon uses a Poly hopper with a Stainless steel metering disc. It is a pendulum style spreader and not a disc spreader which does a couple things. One is it gives an even spread of fertilizer and two is that it doesn't throw fertilizer on to the tractor. Here is a pdf for Vicon spreaders Vicon spreaders

Well, once again, went to use the cheap Ferossi(sp?) 500 and it was dead. This time the shaft rusted and the retaining ring rusted off so there is nothing to hold the disc up. I borrowed a Vicon and did most of my spreading tonight. Would have done it all if my spreader didn't set me back. I think I am going to weld the washer on that holds the disc and just sell the thing for whatever someone will pay me.

Junkman, if you want some pictures of the Vicon spreader just let me know and I will take some before I return the one I am using. It is much nicer then the cheap spreaders and is easy to clean.

sure...... post some pictures, but today, I feel like spraying fuel oil on the ground to kill all the weeds and the few blades of grass that are left. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif guess that the weeds are taking over faster than I can kill them... /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Bump this one back up, since this is a good time of year for spreading. I am in the market for a good but reasonably priced spreader and found this thread to have a lot of good info. Maybe someone else can benefit, too.

Question: Has anybody had success spreading Ag Lime (not pelletized) through a spreader?

I tried it once, but I looked like the abominable snowman afterwards and I had the only off white tractor in the state. Pelleted lime is the way to go if you are spreading it yourself. If you have enough area for the truck to come in and spread a few tons, that is the least expensive and fastest way to go. I agree.... good info in this thread.
