Cell phone jammers

I work in retail and twice now we've had problems with prisoners calling our stores and when the clerk answers and says her name (thank you for calling XYZ store, Susan speaking, how may I help you), they note the person's name and start "phone stalking" the poor clerk.

We don't say names or use name tags any more because of this.

The girls thought it was someone they knew who was waiting outside for them due to the ongoing threats (I'm going to come and get you tonight, you know you want me...sort of comments) and the cops never caught either of the guys.

They figured out that both calls were originating in prisons though and even knew which ones but that's all they would say. Maybe they did get the guys but didn't tell us for all I know as the calls stopped.

Kind of off topic, but where do you sacrifice the freedoms of the many for the abuses of the few?

I think, as a number of others have suggested, the answer is a "Faraday Cage". Whole buildings can be Faraday cages, some of them are but not by design. We call one of our company's buildings the "cone of silence building".

I doubt that making buildings faraday cages violates any laws like a jammer would.

If I remember right, years ago when they built the Superdome in New Orleans, cell phones and pagers wouldn't work in it until they installed a repeater inside much later.

I remember a few times when they had to page a doctor over the PA system and this was probably more annoying than a cell phone ringing.

We had a good laugh at work- my former manager remodeled his old house and added a metal roof. Killed his cell coverage inside- We thought maybe he should have seen that coming since we are in the business!

Well no cell phone jammer works as well as the valley we live in. no bars anywhere, its so peaceful. I dont even own a cell phone, dont need one. Coverage is spotty to work, and at work there is a phone. I have a landline at home so i dont need a cell phone there. Its quite funny watching people check every 3 mins when they are at our house to see if they got a call/text/bar etc. I get strange looks when i say i dont have a cell, but its one less bill for me. Read stephen kings CELL, lol you will be glad for a dead zone of cell coverage.

It would be nice to not have to carry a cell phone for work. However, it is also nice to be able to talk to my wife, kids and other family members whenever I have a moment without having to go to a land line. Also, at our property, it is nice to have the phone if I am working alone out there. Oldest daughter has a pre-paid phone. She only gets $15.00 per month and has to budget it. It has taught her some good lessons about management. :laughing:

When you live in a techy day and age you have to accept it with the good and bad. I mean who would have thought 20 years ago that there would be a website devoted to Tractor talk. I am picturing some older farmer in his farm bibs logging on here with his apple laptop. Its Ironic to say the least. But it has it's advantages.

The same type of person on their cell phone in a movie theater would be the same person talking loudly or shouting out the end scene anyways. Some people are just ignorant. Another words, the cell phone doesnt make people rude just like the fork didnt make Rosey O'Donnell fat.
