Does anybody have any information yet on the new Century tractor Model 3467 with a Cummins engine in the 45 hp range? I spoke with one dealer and they said they would be available on Dec. 10, 2003. They said the Model 3467 (4wd) will replace the Model 3045 that has the Yanmar 4 cyl. diesel. Any feedback?

In regard to the new Kukje engine the model is 3647 it is 47 hp and will replace the 3045. I believe it is the same engine Cummins is selling as the "A" series. But at this point it is not called a Cummins engine. I think it has to do with agreements between Kukje and Cummins. Hopefully some time soon the tractors will say "Powered by Cummins". It will be available soon, possibly but not definitely before Jan 1. There are still 3045s available from dealers and the Yanmar is second to none.

DavesTractor if you are reading what can you tell us about Branson and the new engines?

Hope that helps and Good luck.

Chipperman,

I'm hearing the same sort of information, but we do not have confirmation of all the details yet.

These engines meet tier 2 EPA specs for 2004 is another reason for the design change. I hate to open a can of worms, but these Chinese tractors, will they still allow them to be imported??

If you are refering to Century,They are not Chinese tractors. The Centurys are far superior in Desighn and build and I sell Chinese tractors as well

Just think, if it's the 3.9 or 5.9 that is used that is partally or1/2 owned by Case-IH or CNH or fiat.

Sorry- I did not mean to infer the Century is Chinese. It is made intirely in Korea. My question was about the Chinese tractors that are being imported. Are they going to redesign to meet EPA trier 2?? Can they import them if they don't??
As far as this Cummins engine thing, I think there is some confusion. The engine the Century will be using will be a Kukje built engine to meet tier 2 EPA specs, not a Cummins. Cummins will be selling a Kukje engine with a Cummins label.

All Chinese tractors over 26hp without EPA engine are done Jan1 2004 and then all hp classes on Jan 2005. I don’t think China has taken the EPA issue seriously yet. They always say to me that we will find a way..... I can say I'm not ready to scrap with EPA and I haven’t seen a Chinese engine yet that is even close. Everybody says they have one but when I talk with the EPA they don’t have any Chinese engines that have been submitted for formal testing. It takes one calendar year after submittal to get certified if it passes. If they do continue to come in it will most likely be with an engine purchased from a third party that is certified. That is my guess

What does that mean Buck? If i have a container of tractors on the way from China and they don't get into port till Feb. , does that mean i can't sell them? Where is the cutoff point?

If it works like the automotive emissions, US Customs will not release them until they meet spec.

The new Branson 4720 will have a Kukje-manufactured engine. Will that engine be identical to an engine Kukje may be manufacturing for Cummins? Maybe.........(wink-wink) /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif Will Branson dealers be able to advertise it as a Cummins? Nope......... /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif Will we see them before, oh, about February or March? Nope again..........

I just got my 3647 and I love it. I didn't need any loaders, so it's just the tractor. I pull a 5ft. bushhog and a 6 foot boxblade on my 12 acres.
It's a lexus compared to my old MF135!
I compared everything out there (I'm an engineer) and this was far and away the best thing going.

I think what you can read into this is...... if Cummins has a joint venture with Kukje to market these lower HP engines as the "A" series with a Cummins name, you can bet that Cummins engineers have collaborated with Kukje engineers on a few things. Now whether Cummins would allow kukje to use their name in these tractors they are building and sticking in the same engine...???? I suppose that could be an income opportunity for Cummins. It's good to know that at least the Cummins name means something to people out there.

I guess I'll put my 2 cents into this thread too.....I was told that Kuje makes all small Cummins engines ( tractors and light trucks). That my be wrong though. Also, as far as the EPA goes....I know when they upped the emission standards on Class 8 trucks, one manufacturer (Catapillar) decided not to change their engine and as a result the EPA imposed a per engine fine....Which is eventually passed onto the customer.

wrongway539 , Cummins sells the "A" series made by Kukje to the industrial market to have a low hp offering. They also sell a 3.3 litre engine made by Komatsu. The engine for the Dodge pickup is made in Walesboro In. Other engines used in Case tractors for example are made in Rocky Mount, NC. The point I was trying to make was that the relationship between Cummins and Kukje, probably included some technology improvement to the Kukje engine...through collaboration with Cummins engineers especially in meeting tier II emissions. That is probably a good thing for people buying Branson/ Century tractors.

nobody asked me for my 2 cents worth, but here it is anyway.
It is my understanding that Cummins owns about 30% of Kukje... OK, fine.... I also undertstand that Ford owns some of Cummins. If a Ford owned Cummins is in a Dodge pickup, ?????
There is no telling how much of what percent of any global company is owned by some other company that is supposedely in competetion with them in the first place. (what a tangeled web we weave!)

FYI, From the Cummins Website:

"Does Ford own Cummins?

No, Ford does not own any part of Cummins Inc."

/ Century Tractor with Cummins Engine #20
Actually, Ford did own a small percentage of Cummins during the 80's....maybe about 7% if memory serves me right. They later sold their share. This was during a time when Cummins was being pursued by a corporate raider. It was in Ford's interest to keep the raider out. So don't beat up on Virgil too hard...his info is just a little old.
