I have some chain 3/8" has C7 marked on the links, any one know what the chain might be rated for? I have had the chains for 20 years and pulled about everything you could think of I never gave it much thought untill I started reading the forum. Also with all the talk about tying down a load on a trailer to meet the new D.O.T. requirements what about the safety chains on the trailer do they have to be rated the same as the tie down chains? I think I might need to add some larger safety chains to my trailer.

Markings of a C7 mean it is grade 70 steel transport chain. This grade 70 is sold for use as a binder chain. Sold new 3/8 grade 70 chain has a working load limit of 6600lbs. I do not know if this chain will meet the new DOT requirements. But I hope this helps.

I think that 3/8 binder chain is ample for us in the compact tractor division. With most of the trailers that are on the market today that I have seen, if your tractor ever tried to leave the trailer it would take some trailer parts with it.
