Chain saw and hot weather

No, its the same, but where'd you get "half choke" from? I guess the little graphic on the saw looks, abit, like a "half-choke", but if you read the manuel you'll quickly see that it is never refered to a choke position at all. Is only refered to as the "warm start" position. I really don't think the carb is choked in that position, just the throttle locked.

Hmmm...I will have to look the next time I have it on the bench. Simple enough to check with the cover removed. I sorta just assumed it was half-choke. I have had saws that had a half-choke and saws that didn't.

I know that on mine, if you don't make the right moves you can forget about starting it at all until it sets awhile. I made the mistake the other day of not getting it into the full choke position. No go even after correcting the problem.

You are right. I just checked. 3rd position is 'full throttle' 'no choke'

Are you absolutely sure it's not flooding? Pressure in the gas tank is going to try to force fuel into the engine. When you shut the engine off, it had fuel...that fuel cannot disappear, so it is either in the carburetor, ready to go, or else pressure has already forced it into the engine. It can't go backwards, especially with positive pressure in the gas tank.

Try this: Run it, then shut it off. Try restarting IMMEDIATELY with no choke, no priming, etc. It should fire right up. If it does, do the same thing over again except wait for one minute, then two minutes....you get the drift. See at what time interval this problem crops up. Then look at the spark plug when it won't start. I'll bet it's wet.

Update on my chainsaw-

Well, I went to the local Echo dealer (I bought the saw at Home Depot) and met with lack luster enthusiam as I think he was a little offended by my Big Box store purchase. I told him I wasn't aware he was an Echo dealer and that softened him somewhat, next I asked about my starting problem and was just told it shouldn't do that and to bring it in.

That got me thinking about talking to Home Depot about the problem, so I did and turns out they also rent this model. The rental guy said that this was definately not normal for this saw and to bring it in and exchange it, I told him it was purchased last November and HD had a 90 day refund policy on it. Anyways, the store manager came over and said since there was obviously a real problem with the saw he'd be happy to exchange it for a new one. WOW, so I brought the old saw back yesterday and have a brand new one in my garage. Kudos to Home Depot for doing the right thing even though it was beyond the return policy time. Just thought I'd pass this on that my imprerssion of Home Depot has beem greatly enhanced by this. I'll report back when the new saw is put in service and let you guys know how it worked out in hot weather, hopefully it will be fine,

cp1969- Thanks for the suggestions, it makes good sense and I did try it with no results. The engine was just plain starving for fuel when hot for some reason. I suspect a factory defect somewhere.

Well the final word is the new saw runs and starts perfectly. I put it to work yesterday on the same wood pile and what a difference! Starts right up like it should when hot, and ran great right out of the box, unlike the old saw that didn't seem 'right' from the beginning.

Anyways, thanks all for the helpful suggestions, and thanks too Home Depot for giving me a new saw when they didn't have too.
