Chain saws

I have a ms 180 that we bought 8 years ago just for light us on a one acre property so as you can image we barely used it but now....we have 300 acres and a camp that we heat with wood that little saw got a run for its money in the past year

16 inch bar the chain stays sharp for a really long time and I sharpen it by Hand at the end of the day It always starts and is ready to go the only thing is the small fuel than as mentioned earlier when I take down a tree limb it and cut it into saw logs I'm usually out of gas All we have is pins so there's loooooooottttttttts of branches to limb!

I have also cut up to 20 inch pine and 3 big 30 inch poplars it's a very good little saw for the price!

Weight is the issue on that saw. The smaller lighter 261 can outcut it and you'll be a lot less fatigued at the end of the day.

A 290 weighs about what a 361 does.

Right. The MS261 is a completely different saw. The 260 was an upgrade of the 026 and they were mostly the same. But the 261 is altogether new. The 261 is a strato saw, which means it takes a gulp of fresh air which sandwiches in between the fueled air and the exhaust air. The result is cleaner exhaust, better power ( fueled air is not as diluted with exhaust) and the saw uses less fuel. Bad explanation, I know. Blue air in the attached is the strato air. Not your father's two stroke.

Wow, that's slick!

This was right after I got the 460, and had cleaned them up at the start of the season...MS 170, 311, and 460, with 16", 20", and 28" bars. The full size scabbard was on order for the 460. They're 8.5lbs, 14lbs, and 14.5lbs respectively.

They should have given you a extension for the scabbard if you bought the 460 with that long of a bar.

They looked, but didn't have one, so they ordered me the correct one for free, and I had it a few days later :)

I just purchased a New Stihl MS 291 - 18 inch bar so far its been a great saw. I had 2 older stihls I got from both of my grandfathers 026 and 034 only thing I got done with them was working on them.

?? Did they sit with fuel in them for a long time? I have had a Stihl 026 for a long, long time and it has always run like a champ. I have never had an 034. Currently I have the 026, a MS261, a MS441 a MS192T and a Stihl 130 pole saw. I have never actually had to anything but sharpen the chains and change the plugs.

17 years ago I bought an 029 Farm Boss used and it had been used heavy. Still I have never had a problem with it except when the dealer doesn't sharpen the chain right. I have not replaced anything on that saw except the spark plug once and the gas cap (recall). It still has the original bar, sprocket, etc. I use it for about 6 cords/year.

The only thing I would like as I get older is a little lighter. The MS261 is a nice package.

Carry a saw around the showroom for a while and see what kind of weight you can stand. The old 044 is my baby..
