Chains Chains on R4's

I've got those V-bars on my R-4s and they work great on my steep gravel driveway--a little tough on my garage floor, though. Regards, Mike

These are what I bought a couple of years ago for my 4115. I had the cross over typs at first. They felt like I had 2x4s nailed to my tires. Shook the **** out of me and the tractor. I called tirechains.com and had them make me a set with a cross chain every other link. These ride great and really give me the traction I need on my drivway.

I bought these, they are to be delivered tomorrow:

SQUARE ALLOY CROSS CHAIN

...and if they don't lay right on the tread, or I want more traction, I will then order the extra cross links to make them into 2-link chains. At that time, I have the option of using more of this square link stuff, or going with v-bar, or twisted, whatever I want.

If you can get by with just putting them on the front, that would save you a lot of money. I think you could get the two link v-bar and it would still be cheaper that the plain 4 links for the back.

Just plain didn't need them. I do run about 5 or 6 hundred pounds in my ballast box with the 47 blower on the front.

Yes, it would be much cheaper, but I am inclined not to put chains on my fronts at all - this has been discussed before here.

If all I would get is snow, I could also get away without chains - it's the sleet/ice where I have the problems.

When you get Northern Wisconsin style snows, you'd NEVER ever move with R4's. Trust me, I parked the tractor last year, and used a ATV with V bar chains and it works 5 times better all becuase of the useless R4's snow traction.
