Every time I've tried to use a reciprocating saw on small branches, the branch ends up bouncing back and forth instead of the saw cutting through it.

That can be a problem. Best antidote is to grab the branch with one hand and make sure you're pushing the backstop of the saw against it firmly.

I leave a Makita battery sawzall in my side by side most of the time. Very easy to trim branches that are rubbing the truck or half broken and in the way. Uses the same batteries as the rest of our Makita stuff so they are always handy.

That being said I did get a new Stihl 271 Farm Boss last weekend (my 3 year old Husqvarna 450 refused to start again - very sensitive carb) and I am very impressed with it. Very strong, seems like less vibration than the Husqvarna, and I wasn't as whooped feeling at the end of the day with it. I will get the Husqvarna carb rebuilt again and a local gas station now carries the alcohol free gas so that should help (running it dry did not seem to make a lot of difference) in the future. As soon as it dries out a little I will do a side by side test.

80 volt Greenworks pole saw for me! I love it.

Also have the blower. 3 speeds and very powerful.

My Greenworks blower was great......for about one year, and I used it very rarely. Now the battery won’t charge, and replacement battery is $150. No thanks. I’ll never buy a battery operated lawn tool again. I still use the old 18 V Dewalt hand tools, which work great. I’ve gone thru lots of batteries but the cost is reasonable and they seem to last a long time.

For the occasional limb trimming, a high quality telescopic manual pole pruner is hard to beat. Like the Stihl or Silky brand. Those Japanese style blades are sharp as razors, and you never have to worry about a charge. Plus the cut is cleaner than any chain saw, which is important on valuable fruit or ornamental trees.

Or hit it with the chainsaw..... ;)

Small, bouncy branches don't mix well with chainsaws either. It does help if you can get the bumper on it first.

I think Eddie Walker gave me a link to some reciprocating saw brush blades last year. I'll have to find that again and give them a try.
