Changing Vets

I would stay quiet and see where this goes. You really don't know what is going on here do you? Your just speculating and you need the vet more than he needs you. For all you know the vet owes the guy who needs the skid steer or the guy with the skid steer is going to do some work for the vet.
I say be cool for now.

I think you are totally wrong. The bigmout told one guy he tells another. Pretty soon every one thinks you are broke and a bad risk to do buisness with. The story never stays true. Every one changes it a little. The OP is a sub contractor and needs to maintain a good rep.

I agree 100% with that! This isn't something to let slide, and it need to be addressed in a very firm (but civil) manner. Let him know that your ire isn't directed at him but at the actions of his employee. As others have said, you can't tell the vet how to deal with his employees, but you can remind him that he isn't the only game in town and you can't afford to do business with a place that besmirches your reputation. It wouldn't hurt to mention that the woman has slandered you.
The US Supreme Court defined slander as: (4.) Defamatory words falsely spoken of a party which prejudice such party in his or her profession or trade.

If he's a good vet for your animals and has been fair to you, I would tell him in private what happened. Sometimes it takes a while to ditch a bad employee.

Regarding the employee that gossiped. Their gossip might not have been intended to be malicious. They knew of the OP money situation. They could have told the other guy that maybe TTN :D aka TaylorTractorNut might be willing to rent equipment to earn some money since he needed money. The employee could have had good intentions. Or Not.

The Vet needs to know to stop the gossip regardless of the intent of the gossip. The vet cannot afford to loose any business and neither can TTN of TBN. :D

I would have done the work for the lady, but whats going on I found out today was that she is having some work done to her house and the carpenter needs a loader to move sand and drill some holes and unload lumber. Hes one of her family friends but what really got me was he knew the exact amount of my bill and acted like I was desperate.

I am in the poor house till I get my deposit for materials back from the town project.

So someone else is trying to take advantage, but not the vet himself? If that's it, then I'd just talk to him privately about it and let him deal with it. I'd be sure to tell him that the carpenter knew the exact amount of your bill and wanted your machine to do work on the employee's house. If nothing else, maybe the vet will give you a discount on future services.

Ah. Really no excuse for her to tell him your bill.

After my last post I went to town and had a talk with the Vet and the lady was there in the office. I talked to the Vet and told him how I was aproached, and the bill amount. He offered to write off the bill as he said it was embarassing to him that an employee did this.. I wouldnt agree to it as it is a pretty good bill but I didnt want it to happen again as it could be damaging to my work with the town. He offered to suspend her saying she should know better, but I couldnt really ask that but I also told him I d just do business with him in person.

She acted POed when the vet told her that they had a privacy policy just like the bank. THere was also a sign at counter that states this. Her reply was I was just trying to help the company out. I had dreaded this all day and feel relieved about it now. We do spend alot there with Meds and checkups and all. Iknow this Vet well as he has even opened up on nights and weekends to see a sick animal . I apreciate the good advice yall gave me during this. I guess I was wound up a little tight over my work with the town and landscape customers.

Good to hear it was resolved and apparently to your satisfaction.

So she was a little POed, eh? She isn't all that smart, is she?

I have no doubt your vet has even more respect for you now for not taking him up on his offer to eat the bill and not wanting him to suspend the blabbermouth. You definitely took the high road!
