Looks like it also comes with a power supply for the Mobley, so for $85 isn't all that bad of a deal??

If you found one with USB input that works for that amount then good for you. I bought the T-Mobile Asus one that was around $65, which still seemed like a decent deal for a powerful and functional router. Since the power supply for the Mobley was 30-something that's why I said $85 seemed decent. I was just trying to answer a question for someone...

Not being critical, just throwing out other options. I bought a super long USB cable for as much as the router.

Performance-wise, I'm used to being throttled to 3.6 Mbs down .9 up from the Comcast Loyal Customer Soaking Program at ~$45/mo for my 15Gb/mo habit and 39yrs as a subscriber, and 24yrs internet access/acct.

Interesting. I"m paying for 15, but often get 20 on Ookla speed tests. However, cable is a shared resource, so if neighbors are using heavily, it can get slow.

So I have 2 for less than the cost of 1 of the other referenced here.

Router connection from two each android phones and tablets, Iphone 5, and four Dell laptops I'm always in the 45s in network, and when I'm watching 4 vacationing neighbors' homes and still not 'borrowing' bandwidth to feed my 15Gb/mo habit. Router is Linksys E1200, Modem is Arris SB6190.

Every 'speed test' mentioned here, and a few others echoed anywhere from across town to St Louis, MO have repeated the same results, even at 4:00 AM.

Needless to say, my Mobley feeds any tested so far at double the throughput with no consideration for placement, ie: hanging over pergola crossbar, from cupboard knob, dangling from wire where ALDL connector under dash bracket is busted (I'm a guy, ok .. :laughing

All that said, It seems there's a 'crossover point', and I'm imagining that with signal strength ~-99db we're well above 10Gb. When I was at -112 I was streaming from Fire TV on the Mobly sans hiccups. My Fire TV is 'hardwired' (25' Cat5) to my router and I was told my (Comcast) connection didn't have enuf 'speed' to stream "Heavy Metal" a framin' cartoon needing 720p or less and pro'ly 30 fps. ('Digital' fixed that???? riiiight .. ) :laughing::laughing:

If you're with me guys, I'm all Gilbert Gottfreid fishin' for nods of recognition. (always shorter than my Dennis Miller-ish gems)

If you're late to the party, Mobley works well, for cheap, requires only a tad of manly patience (1 mo for me) to wait out hit or miss service. That hint from someone to hang up and dial again for someone less confused wasn't needed, but IMO is priceless.

Oh, btw 10s across the board for Thread Title. (bonus-rant) OP, I want YOU to 'go straight through to the final!' for that.:thumbsup:

I already had the Asus router so that was not a cost for me. All I had to buy was the power supply for the Mobley and the USB cable.

Bummer. And your contract with Comcast spells it out as a "best effort" service, which means they don't owe you any fixes. Believe me, I do understand that!

Yes, indoody, there certainly is. Actually, more than one. As your signal strength increases, the network changes your modulation scheme to allow better throughput. As it decreases, it ramps you down. The reason is the higher throughput modulation schemes are less error tolerant, while the lower schemes are more tolerant of bad conditions. So, if you have a clean signal, we ramp you up to get the better throughput, if the signal is bad, we gear you down to be more tolerant. Kind of like using a lower gear to climb the (bad signal) hill, and up-shifting a few gears when you crest the peak and head downhill.
